Office Chair Caster Polishing

Admin October 12, 2026

Polishing office chair casters requires selecting appropriate methods based on material and process characteristics. Different materials for chair legs have significantly different polishing methods, and some products with special processes have polishing limitations that require targeted handling.

Polishing steps for metal chair legs (such as ordinary aluminum alloy or steel):
If there are slight rust marks or oxide layers on the surface, first gently wipe along the metal grain direction with fine steel wool or 0000 ultra-fine sandpaper to remove the corrosion. Pay attention to applying even pressure to avoid scratching the surface. Then, take a small amount of metal-specific polishing paste (such as those containing aluminum oxide or chromium oxide components), dip a cotton cloth into it, and evenly apply it to the surface of the chair leg in a circular motion. Continue wiping for 5-10 minutes until the surface heats up. At this point, metal particles will react with the polishing paste, filling in fine scratches and forming a shiny layer. Finally, wipe in the same direction with a dry cloth to remove residual polishing paste and avoid forming hazy marks. If the chair leg has a coating (such as chrome plating), choose a neutral polishing paste to prevent damaging the coating and accelerating oxidation.

Special handling for the Herman Miller Aeron Mineral White flagship aluminum alloy chair legs:
This model of chair legs adopts a full-polishing process and is made of high-strength aluminum alloy, but there are process limitations. The A-side (visible side) is polished by a precision CNC machine to achieve a mirror finish, but the B-side (the side in contact with the ground or the internal structure) cannot be fully polished due to assembly requirements, and may leave slight machining marks or dead corners. For such products, it is recommended to use a soft-bristled brush to remove dust during daily cleaning and avoid using acidic or alkaline cleaning agents that can corrode the aluminum alloy surface. If local gloss restoration is needed, apply a small amount of car wax (containing carnauba wax components) to the A-side and quickly polish it with an ultra-fine fiber cloth. However, note that the wax layer should not be too thick, as it may attract dust. Due to process limitations, it is not recommended to forcibly polish the B-side to avoid damaging the structural strength or causing oxidation problems.

Maintenance points after polishing:
After polishing, avoid exposing the chair legs to humid environments or chemicals (such as cleaning agents and sweat) for long periods to prevent metal oxidation or coating peeling. It is recommended to check the surface of the chair legs every 3-6 months. If slight oxidation occurs, repeat the above polishing steps; if the oxidation is severe, contact professional maintenance personnel for handling to avoid irreversible damage caused by self-operation.
