Office Chair Caster Materials

Admin October 22, 2026

Common materials for office chair casters include plastics, metals, and special materials such as TPU and TPR. Here is a detailed introduction:

Plastic is one of the most commonly used materials for office chair casters, with polyamide (nylon) and polyurethane being the main plastic materials for casters. Casters made of nylon have high strength and wear resistance, enabling them to withstand a certain amount of pressure and friction, making them suitable for most conventional office settings. Their smooth surfaces and flexible rotation reduce friction resistance with the ground, allowing the chair to move more easily. Casters made of polyurethane have good elasticity and shock-absorbing properties, effectively cushioning vibrations and reducing noise during movement. They also provide good protection for the floor and are less likely to scratch it, making them suitable for use on smooth surfaces such as wooden floors and tiles.

Casters made of metal generally have higher strength and load-bearing capacity, making them suitable for office environments that require carrying heavier items or have high usage frequencies. Common metal materials include steel and aluminum alloy. Steel casters are sturdy and durable, capable of bearing significant weight, but they are relatively heavy and may require more effort to move. Aluminum alloy casters, on the other hand, are lightweight and corrosion-resistant, reducing the overall weight of the chair while ensuring a certain level of strength, making movement more convenient.

In addition to the common plastic and metal materials mentioned above, some office chair casters also use special materials such as TPU and TPR. For example, Ergoto brand casters incorporate these materials, which can be selected based on different load-bearing requirements. TPU material has high strength, high elasticity, wear resistance, and oil resistance, enabling it to maintain good performance in complex environments. TPR material has good flexibility and resilience, a soft touch, low noise during movement, and strong adaptability to the ground.
