Office Chair Caster Materials
Common plastic materials for office chair casters include polypropylene (PP), polyurethane (PU), modified nylon, and polyamide, with differences in performance, applicable scenarios, and costs among these materials.

PP material: It is cost-effective, lightweight, and durable, making it one of the most widely used materials for office chair casters. With its low density, it can reduce the overall weight of the casters, facilitating easy movement. Meanwhile, it has basic impact resistance and chemical resistance, meeting the needs of conventional office environments. However, PP material has relatively low hardness and weak wear resistance. In scenarios with frequent movement or heavy loads, the tire surface is prone to wear, and the service life may be relatively short. It is suitable for scenarios with a limited budget or low usage frequency.
PU material: It is renowned for its outstanding wear resistance, with an anti-wear capability 3 to 5 times that of PP under normal working conditions. In a carpet test simulating a 200-kilogram load and continuous rolling for 100,000 times, the tire surface wear of high-quality PU casters was only 0.2 millimeters, indicating its ability to withstand long-term high-intensity use. PU material also has noise-reducing properties, generating low noise during rolling. It has strong adaptability to floors (such as carpets and wooden floors) and is less likely to scratch the surface. Therefore, it is widely used in mid-to-high-end office chairs, especially suitable for scenarios requiring frequent movement or high noise-reduction requirements.
Modified nylon material: After modification by adding glass fibers or other reinforcing agents, its hardness is significantly improved, with wear resistance about 4 times that of PP, and it is less likely to deform. It performs excellently on hard floors (such as tiles and wooden floors), being able to resist the friction and pressure generated by long-term rolling and keeping the tire surface flat. Modified nylon also has good heat resistance and dimensional stability, suitable for environments with high temperatures or significant humidity changes. However, its cost is slightly higher than that of PP, and it is mostly used in office scenarios with high durability requirements.
Polyamide material: It belongs to high-performance engineering plastics, known for its high hardness, chemical corrosion resistance, and high-temperature stability. It has extremely strong wear resistance, being able to withstand heavy loads and frequent movement for a long time. It also has good resistance to acids, alkalis, and other chemicals and is less likely to age or deform. Polyamide material is suitable for high-end office chairs, especially for special environments such as industrial offices and laboratories. However, its cost is relatively high and is usually used in scenarios with strict performance requirements.
