1. Basic Tool Cleaning (Suitable for Surface Entanglement)

If long filaments (such as hair) are only entangled on the surface of the caster, use small tools to hook them out first. Toothpicks, hairpins, pointed tweezers, or straightened paper clips can precisely pick out the fibers. If the entanglement is tight, first wipe the surface of the caster with a damp cloth. The softened dust is easier to remove. This method does not require disassembling the wheel and is suitable for daily quick maintenance. However, be careful to avoid scratching the wheel surface with the tools.

2. Deep Cleaning (Suitable for Removable Wheels)

If the wheel has a snap-on structure and is removable, simply pull it off and rinse it with running water, focusing on cleaning the dirt in the wheel axle grooves. Use a toothbrush dipped in dishwashing detergent to scrub the gaps. Stubborn stains can be repeatedly wiped with a soft-bristled brush. After rinsing, dry it with a dry cloth to prevent rusting caused by residual moisture. For non-removable wheels, use a syringe to draw 75% alcohol and slowly flush it at the bearing part. Alcohol evaporates quickly and can dissolve grease, making it suitable for cleaning internally entangled filaments.

3. Special Material Treatment (For Rubber/Nylon Wheels)

• Rubber Casters: If the long filaments are deeply embedded, soak them in 70°C hot water for 15 minutes. The rubber softens when heated, making the fibers easier to fall off. After soaking, use tweezers to pick out the remaining substances.
• Nylon Casters: Drip 1-2 drops of peanut oil or olive oil and let it sit for half an hour. The lubricant penetrates the fibers, significantly reducing the resistance when pulling out the entangled objects. After cleaning, wipe the wheel with alcohol to remove oil stains.

4. Preventive Measures and Subsequent Maintenance

• Regular Cleaning: Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the wheel set every quarter to reduce dust accumulation. Long-haired users can lay a short-pile carpet under the chair to reduce the risk of fiber entanglement.
• Install Anti-entanglement Accessories: There are silicone anti-entanglement wheel covers on the market that can cover the wheel axle position and directly block long filaments from entering the bearing. Some products are suitable for 2-inch double-wheel threaded rods with M10 insert pins and snap rings (commonly found in rubber materials and screw-in installations).
• Noise Handling: If there is still noise after cleaning, the bearing may be deformed or worn. A new wheel set needs to be replaced (costing about 20-50 yuan) to avoid forced use causing the wheel to get stuck.

Tips: Before operation, confirm whether the wheel is removable to avoid breaking the snap-on part due to violent disassembly. Lubricant is only for nylon wheels. Contact with oil may accelerate the aging of rubber wheels.
