Office Chair Caster Knowledge

Admin October 13, 2026

The knowledge of office chair casters covers various aspects such as types, replacement, functions, testing, structure, product characteristics, and application scenarios.

Types and Suitable Scenarios: Office chair casters are mainly divided into regular casters and PU casters. PU casters are made of soft materials, suitable for smooth surfaces like hardwood floors, reducing scratches; regular hard casters are suitable for carpets or wear-resistant floors. Selecting the caster type based on the floor material can optimize performance and extend the floor's lifespan.

Replacement Methods and Precautions: To replace casters, first identify the connection method. If it is a clamp-fixed type, invert the chair, forcefully pull out the old caster, and then snap in the new one until you hear a 'click' indicating it is in place; if it is a threaded connection, unscrew the old caster and screw in the new one. Key precautions include:

  • Consistent Size: The new caster must be the same size as the others to prevent the chair from tilting;
  • Matching Type: Use hard casters on hard floors and soft casters on carpets to ensure smooth movement;
  • Installation Strength: For casters with a snap-in pin design, ensure the snap is in place; for threaded types, tighten them to prevent loosening.

Functions and Performance Testing: Casters have both mobility and locking functions; pressing the brake can fix the position. Performance tests include:

  • Ultimate Load Test: Under a heavy load of 113KG, high-strength composite materials and optimized structures prevent deformation, ensuring safety;
  • Durability Test: Through 100,000 slides (including 2,000 obstacle simulations) to test hardness and toughness, preventing fracture risks.

Structure and Mainstream Product Characteristics: Casters are connected to the bracket via a rotating shaft, enabling 360-degree steering, divided into fixed-direction casters (fixed direction) and swivel casters (flexible steering). Mainstream products address pain points through material innovation:

  • Silence: Rubber materials are specially treated to reduce friction noise;
  • Floor Protection: Soft caster bodies prevent scratches;
  • Load-Bearing Stability: The snap-in pin design allows a single caster to dynamically bear over 50 kilograms, with a four-caster combination supporting 200-kilogram office chairs.

Application Scenario Requirements: For office scenarios, silence is prioritized; for home scenarios, floor protection is emphasized; for industrial scenarios, high load-bearing capacity and wear resistance are required. Modular design is becoming a trend, allowing quick adaptation to different scenarios by replacing the caster body or adjusting the bracket.
