Office Chair Caster Inspection

Admin October 12, 2026

Office chair caster inspection is a crucial step to ensure their performance and safety, directly related to the user's comfort, work efficiency, and personal safety.

Inspection Scope and Objects

The inspection covers finished casters and their components, focusing on evaluating mechanical properties, durability, and physical characteristics. The inspection objects are mainly fully assembled caster assemblies, involving wheel surface materials such as nylon, polyurethane, and rubber, as well as brackets and bearing systems made of metal or engineering plastics.

Core Inspection Items

  1. Mechanical Property Testing

    • Rolling Resistance Testing: Evaluate the ease of pushing the casters on a standard floor surface, reflecting their sliding efficiency.
    • Rotational Resistance Testing: Measure the torque required for the casters to rotate around the main shaft, determining steering flexibility.
    • Static Load Capacity Testing: Determine the maximum vertical load that the casters can withstand in a static state to ensure load-bearing safety.
  2. Durability Testing

    • Dynamic Durability Testing: Simulate long-term use conditions through a rolling fatigue testing machine, such as back-and-forth motion with a stroke of 762mm and a speed of 8 - 12 cycles per minute, applying a load of 113 kilograms to the seat surface during testing, and recording the number of cycles until failure. Some equipment can perform tens of thousands of uninterrupted tests, allowing free setting of parameters such as load, speed, and trajectory.
    • Braking Performance Testing: For casters with braking devices, verify whether their braking effect meets the standards.
  3. Environmental Adaptability Testing

    • High and Low Temperature Resistance Testing: Use a high and low temperature test chamber to examine the performance changes of materials under extreme temperatures, ensuring their stability in different environments.
  4. Routine Inspections

    • Include appearance, dimensions, and assembly firmness, using tools such as calipers and projectors to ensure compliance with design requirements.

Inspection Equipment and Standards

  • Core Equipment: Universal material testing machines, rolling/rotational resistance testers, dynamic durability test benches, high and low temperature test chambers, etc. The force measurement accuracy should be within ยฑ1%.
  • Auxiliary Tools: Hardness testers, microscopes, etc., are used for microscopic wear analysis.
  • Inspection Standards: Developed based on GB/T 10357, QB/T 2280, and BIFMA specifications, highly replicating real-world conditions such as daily gliding and steering, while also complying with national mandatory safety standards.

Inspection Process

  1. Sample Preparation and Pre-treatment: Select a specified number of samples and adjust their state in a standard temperature and humidity environment (e.g., 23ยฑ2ยฐC, 50ยฑ5%RH).
  2. Instrument Calibration: Ensure that all measuring equipment is in a valid metrological state.
  3. Testing Steps: Proceed in the order of the items, first checking the appearance and dimensions, then conducting static load testing. During dynamic testing, continuously observe the structural state of the wheel body and bearings to detect defects such as wear and cracking.
