Office Chair Caster Height Increase

Increasing the height of office chair casters can be achieved by replacing components or choosing models with a wider adjustment range, but compatibility and safety must be considered.

Some office chairs support height adjustment via gas springs. For example, the Henglin Counterattack II ergonomic chair is equipped with a 4cm adjustable backrest and adjustable armrests, and its bottom casters are designed for 360-degree rotation and height adaptation. If further height increase of the casters is needed, the following two methods can be considered:

1. Replace the gas spring with an extended-shaft model
The gas spring is the core component for height adjustment of an office chair, and its shaft length directly affects the overall height of the seat. If the original chair's gas spring has a short shaft, the position of the casters can be raised by replacing it with an extended-shaft model. However, two points need to be noted:

• Compatibility verification: Ensure that the interface dimensions and thread specifications of the new gas spring match perfectly with those of the original chair's base and casters to avoid wobbling or detachment due to improper installation.
• Load-bearing and safety: An extended shaft may change the mechanical structure of the gas spring. Choose products that comply with national safety standards (such as GB/T 10357.4-2013) and ensure that their load-bearing range covers the user's weight.

2. Choose models with a wider backrest height adjustment range
If the need for height increase stems from the pursuit of sitting comfort (such as the need to match a higher desk), office chairs with a wider backrest adjustment range can be prioritized. For example, some models support a 13.5cm adjustable headrest design, which indirectly optimizes the relative position of the sitting posture and the desk by adjusting the backrest height. Although such designs do not directly increase the height of the casters, they can reduce dependence on caster height through ergonomic adaptation.

Precautions

• Self-modification may affect the product warranty. It is recommended to consult the brand's after-sales service or professional maintenance personnel first.
• If the office chair has a fixed structure (without a gas spring), it cannot be heightened by replacing components and needs to be replaced entirely with an adjustable model.
• After heightening, test the stability of the chair to avoid the risk of tipping over due to a high center of gravity.
