Falling Off of Office Chair Casters
Whether the falling off of office chair casters constitutes a quality issue requires assessment based on the actual situation.

From the perspective of product quality definition, if the falling off of casters is caused by design flaws, manufacturing defects, or material quality issues inherent in the product itself, it is considered a quality issue. For example, an unreasonable installation structure may lead to loose connections of the casters, and insufficient material strength may result in breakage under normal use due to stress. These situations indicate that the product has not met the required quality standards. According to the sampling inspection results of the State Administration for Market Regulation, some unqualified office chairs have problems with caster falling off, accompanied by risks such as base breakage, formaldehyde exceeding the standard, and even explosion. The batch non-compliance rate reaches 23.3%, further demonstrating that defects in the design or manufacturing process may directly lead to caster falling off.
If the falling off of casters is caused by improper use, maintenance, or storage by consumers, it is generally not considered a quality issue. For example, excessive force when dragging the chair or frequent movement on rough surfaces can accelerate caster wear. Long-term exposure to humid or high-temperature environments may lead to component aging. These situations are unrelated to the product's inherent quality but are caused by usage patterns or environmental factors. Additionally, excessive loads (such as exceeding the chair's designed weight capacity) or improper installation (such as not following the instructions for installing the casters correctly) may also lead to falling off, and consumers are responsible for such situations.
If there is a dispute between consumers and producers or sellers regarding the cause of caster falling off, a professional appraisal institution can be used to determine responsibility. The appraisal institution will comprehensively analyze factors such as product design, manufacturing process, usage environment, and consumer behavior to identify the primary cause of the falling off and thus determine the responsible party. For example, if the appraisal results show that the falling off of casters is due to insufficient material strength or installation structure defects, the producer shall bear the quality responsibility; if it is due to the consumer's long-term dragging of the chair on rough surfaces causing wear, the responsibility lies with the consumer.
