Office Chair Caster Durability

Admin October 19, 2026

The durability of office chair casters is quantitatively evaluated through professional equipment simulating actual working conditions, and must meet specific testing standards and failure determination criteria. Its testing system covers equipment, methods, parameters, and practical application scenarios, with specific technical details as follows:

1. Core Testing Equipment and Standards

  • Office Chair Caster Durability Tester: It uses a variable-frequency motor to drive the seat for back-and-forth movement with a stroke of 762mm and a frequency of 8-12 times per minute. A load of 113 kg is applied to the seat surface to simulate human body pressure. The equipment supports height adjustment (80-500mm) and PLC module control. Some models are equipped with dual-station independent testing structures and comply with the BIFMA X5.1 standard.
  • Floor Reciprocating Sliding Durability Tester: It drives the entire chair for linear back-and-forth sliding through a driving mechanism. The sliding speed, load (100-113 kg), and total mileage (tens of thousands of kilometers) can be set. The test platform can be replaced with materials such as wooden floors and carpets to highly replicate indoor environments and complies with standards such as GB/T 10357 and QB/T 2280.

2. Key Testing Parameters and Scenarios

  • Load and Frequency: The durability test cycle can reach 72,000 cycles (simulating 12 months of daily use), or continuous testing for tens of thousands of kilometers can be set through the equipment.
  • Obstacle Simulation: The tester can be set to have a smooth surface or an obstacle-filled scenario to evaluate the anti-wear ability of the casters in complex environments.
  • Multi-dimensional Evaluation Indicators: These include the increase in rolling resistance (not exceeding 50% of the initial value), the deviation angle of free rotation of the vertical axis (not exceeding 5 degrees), and the shedding of parts (such as wheel axle snap rings and bearing cage fragments).

3. Failure Determination and Data Collection

  • Quantitative Standards: The casters must be able to roll normally without jamming or shedding after the test. The test process records the changes in sliding resistance, the nodes of abnormal noises, and wear and deformation throughout.
  • Environmental Control: All tests must be carried out under standard conditions of a temperature of 23ยฐC and a relative humidity of 50%. Samples must be stored in a constant-temperature and humidity chamber for 48 hours in advance to eliminate the influence of material moisture content.

4. Application Scenarios and Advantages

  • Equipment Adaptability: It can test various general-purpose casters such as PU silent wheels, nylon hard wheels, and rubber universal wheels, and supports synchronous testing of multiple chairs.
  • Process Optimization: Through testing, defects such as insufficient toughness of the wheel body material and rough bearing processing can be screened out, helping enterprises optimize the assembly processes of plastic materials, bearings, and snaps.
  • Certification Support: Standardized test results can be used for cross-border BIFMA certification, engineering group purchasing acceptance, and the improvement of domestic and foreign product qualifications.
