Classification of Office Chair Casters
Admin October 10, 2026
Office chair casters are mainly divided into two categories: swivel casters and fixed casters, and they also have different characteristics from the perspectives of material and function.

Classification by Steering Method
- Swivel Casters: These are connected to the wheel body and the bracket through spherical bearings. This unique design allows them to flexibly turn in response to thrust in any direction, enabling 360-degree free movement. In office scenarios, when users need to frequently adjust their positions or turn around to pick up items, swivel casters can significantly reduce the friction resistance during movement, making the movement of the office chair easier and smoother, greatly enhancing office flexibility and efficiency. For example, in open office areas, employees may need to frequently communicate and collaborate with colleagues in different directions, and swivel casters can well meet this need.
- Fixed Casters: Their direction is fixed, and they can only rotate back and forth in a single direction, with relatively poor flexibility. Due to their usage limitations, they are less commonly used in office chairs. However, in some specific scenarios where frequent direction changes are not required, fixed casters also have their uses.
Classification by Material
- PU Soft-Wrapped Silent Casters: The outer layer is made of soft polyurethane rubber material, which has the advantages of smooth rolling, silence, and not scratching the floor. For office spaces with smooth floors such as wooden floors and tiles, PU soft-wrapped silent casters are the preferred choice. They can effectively protect the floor and avoid generating noise when moving the office chair, creating a quiet office environment.
- Nylon Casters: When the floor is relatively rough and high wear resistance of the casters is required, nylon casters are a good choice. Nylon material has high strength and wear resistance, and can withstand the friction of rough floors, extending the service life of the casters.
- Polyurethane Casters: If extremely high silence requirements are needed, polyurethane casters are the ideal choice. They can ensure smooth rolling while minimizing noise, providing office workers with a quiet and comfortable working space.
Classification by Function
In office and industrial scenarios, it is recommended to choose models with brakes. Office chair casters with brakes can fix the position of the office chair when needed, preventing it from moving randomly and improving usage safety. For example, when office workers need to perform tasks that require a stable posture on the office chair, such as drawing or writing, casters with brakes can ensure that the office chair will not move due to slight external forces, ensuring the smooth progress of work.
