Office Chair Cannot Slide

Admin October 17, 2026

You can try the following methods to solve the problem of an office chair that cannot slide:

First, check if the wheels are stuck with foreign objects. Foreign objects getting stuck is one of the common reasons why an office chair cannot slide. Turn the chair over and carefully examine the area around the wheels, including the places where the wheels touch the ground and the gaps where the wheels connect to the chair. These areas are prone to accumulating small debris, hair, and other foreign objects, which can hinder the normal rotation of the wheels. Use small brushes, tweezers, and other tools to clean up these foreign objects. After cleaning, put the chair back in place and test if the wheels can slide normally.

Second, add lubricant. After long-term use, the axles of the wheels may experience increased friction and rotate poorly. At this time, you can add lubricant to the wheels, such as WD - 40. When adding, turn the chair over, ensure that the axles are clean and free of foreign objects, and then evenly spray the lubricant onto the axles. After spraying, let the wheels rotate a few circles so that the lubricant can fully penetrate into the interior of the axles, reducing friction and making the wheels rotate more smoothly. However, be careful not to spray too much to avoid the lubricant dripping onto the ground or other items and causing pollution.

Third, check if the wheels are loose. The non-sliding of the office chair's casters may be caused by loose casters. Check each caster to see if it is loose. If a certain caster is found to be loose, tighten the screws. If the screws are damaged and cannot be tightened, or if the caster itself is damaged, the caster needs to be replaced.

In addition, replace the wheels. If the wheels are severely worn and cannot slide normally even after the above treatments, you need to purchase suitable wheels for replacement. Different models of office chairs may require wheels of different specifications. When purchasing new wheels, pay attention to choosing the appropriate specifications. When replacing, usually turn the chair over, unscrew the screws on the old wheels, install the new wheels, and tighten the screws. After replacement, test the sliding condition of the wheels.

Finally, check the chair base. The deformation of the base may affect the normal running track of the wheels. Check if the base has any bends or dents. If a problem is found with the base, for a slightly bent base, you can try to slowly correct it with appropriate tools to restore its original shape; if the base is severely damaged, you may need to contact a professional repair person or consider replacing it with a new base.
