Office Chair Cannot Be Fixed

Admin October 09, 2026

The issue of an office chair not being able to be fixed can be resolved through targeted measures, depending on the type of wobbling or sliding.

If the office chair tends to tip backward quickly when leaning back, it may be related to the hydraulic rod, adjustment handle, or screw tightness. Hydraulic rod maintenance is the first step. Prolonged use can lead to pressure imbalance inside the hydraulic rod or aging of the seals. Check for oil leaks or difficulties in lifting and lowering, and replace the hydraulic rod if necessary. Adjustment handle inspection involves confirming whether it is stuck or damaged, preventing the backrest angle from being locked. Try cleaning the inside of the handle or replacing the parts. Screw tightening requires focusing on the screws connecting the backrest to the seat. Use appropriate tools (such as a wrench or screwdriver) to tighten them one by one to prevent the backrest from tilting due to looseness.

If the chair slides unstably, distinguish between structural wobbling and floor sliding. Structural wobbling is often caused by loose screws or frame deformation. Tighten all screws, especially the bolts connecting the chair legs to the seat and backrest, using tools to reinforce them one by one. If the frame is loose, nail wooden or metal strips diagonally between adjacent chair legs on both sides of the chair to transform the quadrilateral structure into a triangular one, enhancing stability. Wobbling caused by an uneven floor can be resolved by adjusting the height of the chair legs. Stick hard cardboard, thin wooden sheets, or specialized adjustable-height furniture leg pads to the bottom of the shorter chair legs to keep the chair level. If the floor is slippery, stick self-adhesive anti-slip pads or EVA protective pads to the bottom of the chair legs to increase friction and prevent scratches on the floor.

For floor sliding issues, anti-slip accessories are an effective solution. Silicone chair leg covers are elastic, anti-slip, and wear-resistant, and easy to install, suitable for most chair legs. Felt pads offer excellent noise reduction and strong protection for wooden floors, but their anti-slip performance is weaker on hard surfaces like tiles, and they should be kept away from humid environments. Anti-slip tape can be cut and wrapped around irregular chair legs, providing strong fixation, but may leave residue when removed. Area anti-slip measures can be achieved by laying carpets or specialized anti-slip mats, increasing friction from the source and reducing chair sliding while protecting the floor.

When dealing with the issue, choose the appropriate method based on the specific problem. Prioritize checking the screw tightness and hydraulic rod condition, and then select anti-slip accessories or adjust the chair leg height according to the floor condition.
