Office Chair Cannot Adjust Height

Admin October 16, 2026

If an office chair cannot adjust its height, first check whether the gas lift is damaged, and then take measures such as replacing the gas lift, cleaning and inspecting, or contacting a repair service based on the specific situation.

If the gas lift is damaged: The gas lift is the core component for adjusting the height of an office chair. Damage to it will result in the inability to adjust the height. In this case, you can try replacing the gas lift, which usually costs around 30 yuan. When replacing, make sure that the size and specifications of the new gas lift are the same as those of the original one. This is crucial for ensuring smooth installation and normal use. For some chairs without screw fixation, you can loosen the old gas lift by shaking and tapping the circular part around it and then remove it. When installing the new gas lift, first attach it to the base, then place the seat on the gas lift and press it firmly to ensure a secure installation.

If the gas lift is not damaged: First, clean the chair. Use a clean, soft cloth to wipe the surface and crevices of the chair to remove dust and debris, as dust accumulation may affect the normal height adjustment of the chair. Then, check whether there is any air leakage in the chair. Air leakage will lead to insufficient air pressure and affect the height adjustment function. If a leak is found, repair it, for example, by using sealant for sealing. In addition, worn and aged seals can also cause air pressure leakage. In this case, replace the seals with new ones to restore the chair's sealing performance and ensure normal height adjustment.

If none of the above methods work: It indicates that the problem may be more complex and beyond the scope of self-repair. In this case, it is recommended to contact professional repair personnel. They have professional knowledge and tools and can diagnose the problem more accurately and carry out repairs, avoiding further deterioration of the problem due to improper self-operation and ensuring that the office chair can return to normal use.
