CAD Drawing Method for Office Chairs
Admin October 11, 2026
There are mainly two CAD drawing methods for office chairs: 3D modeling and drawing three-view diagrams. Here are the specific introductions:

3D Modeling Method
- Seat Cushion Drawing: First, draw a polygon as the basis for the chair's width. Usually, an octagon is a suitable choice. After drawing, adjust the lines to meet the design requirements. Then, use the offset command to offset the polygon lines by a certain distance, for example, 5 millimeters. This offset shape will be used as the seat cushion. After that, perform an extrusion operation on the contour lines to extrude them to an appropriate height, forming the preliminary shape of the seat cushion. Finally, perform a shell operation to turn the extruded solid into a mesh shape, simulating the appearance of the seat cushion.
- Backrest Drawing: Drawing the backrest is relatively more complex and can be done in three stages of extrusion. First, in the left view, adjust the middle raised part to determine its depth and shape. Then, in the front view, adjust the indentation on both sides so that the shape of the backrest conforms to ergonomics. After the initial extrusion, further adjust the shape by arching the middle part to make the backrest fit the curve of the human back more closely and improve comfort.
- Seat Cushion Detail Processing: Draw the detailed parts of the seat cushion, such as the shape of the edges, in the top view. After drawing, extrude it into a solid and convert it into a mesh. Then, merge the faces and process the bottom and side faces, for example, by flattening the bottom to make the bottom of the seat cushion more even and arching the top to improve the smoothness of the seat cushion surface and enhance the visual effect and comfort.
Drawing Three-View Diagrams Method
You can collect pictures of relevant office chairs and use the drawing tools in CAD software to draw the front view, top view, and left view of the office chair according to the shapes and dimensions in the pictures. During the drawing process, ensure that the proportions and positional relationships between the different views are accurate. After drawing, these three-view diagrams can be applied to floor planning, for example, to show the placement position and appearance shape of the office chair in an interior design floor plan, providing an intuitive reference for the design.
