Office Chair Cable Broken
The broken cable of an office chair can be repaired following the steps below. If the aging and breakage of the bottom elastic strip are involved, targeted treatment is also required:

I. Repair Steps for a Broken Cable
Clean the Office Chair Use a clean cloth or a neutral detergent to wipe the surface and tracks of the office chair, focusing on cleaning the dust and debris at the connection between the backrest and the seat. Cleaning can prevent impurities from entering the mechanical structure during repair and facilitate the observation of the breakage location.
Remove Relevant Components If the broken cable is located inside the backrest, use a screwdriver to remove the bottom plate at the top of the backrest. When operating, pay attention to recording the positions of the screws (you can take photos or store them separately) to avoid misalignment during subsequent installation. Some office chairs may require the removal of the seat cushion or armrests first to expose the internal structure.
Locate and Fix the Damaged Cable
- Locate the Breakage Point: Look for the cable that tightens the backrest under the bottom plate of the backrest or inside the seat frame. It is usually made of metal or high-strength nylon. If the breakage point is not obvious, check the connection points between the cable and other components (such as the adjusting lever and the spring).
- Repair Methods:
- Connect a New Cable: If the breakage point is accessible, use a new cable of the same specification (such as a nylon rope or steel wire) to tie a knot or crimp it with the end of the old cable. Ensure a firm connection and then fix it to the backrest adjusting lever.
- Repair Using a Spring: Some designs tighten the cable through the gravity of a spring. You can loosen the fixed end of the spring, let the broken cable sink to an operable position, and use pliers to clamp the end of the cable and refix it.
- Test and Reinstall
- Function Test: After repair, manually adjust the backrest to check if it moves up and down smoothly and if there is any abnormal noise. If the adjustment is stuck, recheck the tension of the cable or the connection points.
- Reinstall Components: After confirming that the function is normal, reinstall the bottom plate, screws, and other components in the reverse order of disassembly. Test again to ensure that all cables are connected correctly.
II. Treatment for a Broken Bottom Elastic Strip If the looseness of the office chair is caused by the aging and breakage of the rubber band pull rope (elastic strip) at the bottom of the seat, a new elastic strip needs to be replaced. Choose a round-bar-designed elastic strip that matches the specifications of the original accessory. Its high-elastic and wear-resistant material can withstand repeated pressing and is not prone to mildew and deformation in humid environments. When installing, fix both ends of the elastic strip in the corresponding slots of the chair frame to ensure a proper fit and firmness without displacement.
III. Precautions If severe rusting of the internal structure, breakage of plastic parts, or a lack of tool operation conditions are found during the repair process, it is recommended to contact professional maintenance personnel or send it to a repair shop for treatment to avoid secondary damage caused by improper operation.
