Office Chair Button and Knob

Admin October 16, 2026

The buttons and knobs beneath an office chair typically offer functions such as adjusting backrest firmness, chair height, locking and unlocking, and dynamic lumbar support adjustment.

Adjusting Backrest Firmness: The firmness of an office chair's backrest can be adjusted using a specific knob. Rotating the knob clockwise hardens the backrest, providing stronger support for users who need to maintain a fixed sitting posture for extended periods or have higher lumbar support requirements. Conversely, rotating the knob counterclockwise softens the backrest, offering more flexible support to meet the personalized comfort needs of different users.

Adjusting Chair Height: The height adjustment of an office chair is generally achieved by rotating a lever up or down. Rotating the lever upward raises the chair, while rotating it downward lowers the chair. In some computer chairs, a circular knob beneath the seat controls the pneumatic rod. The pneumatic rod uses gas and liquid as working media to adjust the height by changing internal pressure. Users can adjust the chair to a suitable height based on their own height and usage scenario to ensure a comfortable sitting posture.

Locking and Unlocking Function: Office chairs are usually equipped with locking and unlocking levers. Pushing the lever inward locks it, fixing the chair's current state. For example, after adjusting the chair to a suitable height and backrest angle, pushing the lever inward prevents accidental movement or changes in height and angle during use. Pulling the lever outward renders it ineffective, unlocking the chair and allowing users to readjust the height and angle.

Dynamic Lumbar Support Adjustment: The circular knob on the lower right side of an office chair is the dynamic lumbar support adjuster. Properly activating the lumbar support canๅˆ†ๆ‹…48% (share 48%) of the intervertebral disc load, which is nearly half, playing a crucial role in lumbar health. When using it, sit and fine-tune until the lumbar area is firmly supported, and the apex of the lumbar support must be precisely aligned with the most concave part of the lumbar spine (the point where the thumbs of both hands meet when placed on the hips). Rotating the knob clockwise tightens the support, while rotating it counterclockwise relaxes it. However, nine out of ten users may rotate it in the wrong direction, so caution is advised during use.
