Office Chair Broken

Admin October 08, 2026

After an office chair is damaged, you can choose to repair or replace it based on the extent of the damage. Here are the specific handling methods:

1. Minor Damage: Self-Repair

If the office chair has minor issues such as loose screws, detached casters, or broken buckles, you can handle them yourself. When the screws are loose, use the matching Allen wrench to tighten them. If the casters are damaged, purchase universal casters of the same specification and press them firmly into the slots to complete the replacement. If the buckles are broken, you can buy buckles of the matching model online for replacement or use high-temperature structural adhesive for temporary reinforcement (press and hold for several hours after applying the adhesive). Such repairs are low-cost and simple to perform, requiring no professional tools.

2. Moderate Damage: Partial Component Replacement for Repair

If the frame is slightly deformed, the edge of the seat plate is cracked, or the gas lift is ineffective, you need to replace the relevant components. When the gas lift is damaged, invert and fix the chair, use a tool to unscrew the connections between the old gas lift and the base and seat surface, and then install a new, compatible gas lift. If the fabric cover of the fabric-seated chair is damaged, choose a thick and wear-resistant cover of the same size and simply put it on. For such repairs, ensure that the new components match the model of the original chair to avoid secondary damage caused by mismatched sizes.

3. Severe Damage: Recommended Replacement

If the backrest frame is broken, the chair legs have large-area cracks, or the lifting and load-bearing functions are completely lost, the repair cost may be close to or even exceed the price of a new chair, and the safety after repair is difficult to guarantee (such as the risk of gas lift explosion and reduced structural stability). In such cases, it is recommended to directly replace the chair with a new one. In addition, if the chair has been used for many years and problems such as sponge collapse and severe fabric pilling frequently occur due to aging, consider replacing it to improve the user experience.

4. Contact After-Sales Service First During the Warranty Period

If the office chair is still within the warranty period, first check the warranty duration, the covered parts (such as whether the gas lift and casters and other vulnerable parts are within the warranty scope), and the non-covered parts (such as man-made damage and natural wear and tear). Keep the purchase receipt, model, serial number, and other information, and contact after-sales service in a timely manner. Some brands offer free repair or component replacement services, which can significantly reduce repair costs.

Tip: Avoid violent operations (such as sitting down forcefully and rotating too fast) during daily use and regularly check the tightness of the screws to extend the service life of the office chair.
