Office Chair Breakage Repair

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair breakage repair requires selecting targeted solutions based on the broken part and type. The specific methods are as follows:

I. Common Breakage Repair

If the chair breaks due to a fall or the wooden structure itself (such as chair legs, crossbeams, etc.), a DIY repair method can be used. First, prepare materials and tools, including wood glue, sawdust or wood filler, sandpaper, and spray paint (matching the original chair color). The repair steps are as follows:

  1. Clean the break: Use sandpaper to sand the broken surface, removing burrs and old glue residue to ensure a flat contact surface.
  2. Bond and fix: Apply wood glue evenly to the break, align it, and press it tightly with clamps or heavy objects. Let it sit for 24 hours until the glue is completely cured.
  3. Fill the break: Mix sawdust with glue to make wood filler, or directly use specialized wood filler to fill the gap. After it dries, sand it until the surface is smooth.
  4. Spray paint: Choose spray paint according to the original chair color and evenly spray the repaired part. For high-end materials like rosewood chairs, redraw the wood grain to maintain consistency.

II. Tilted Breakage Repair

If the chair tilts to one side as a whole, prioritize checking the casters and the seat plate:

  1. Caster check: Observe whether the casters are bent, deformed, or broken. If the casters are damaged, purchase a new caster set that matches the original chair model and replace all of them (to avoid inconsistent heights between new and old casters that could cause further tilting).
  2. Seat plate check: If the casters are intact, check whether the connection between the seat plate and the chair legs is loose or broken. If the metal connectors are damaged, replace the screws or reinforce the brackets; if the wooden seat plate is cracked, follow the common breakage repair method.

III. Structural Damage Repair

For structural damage such as missing armrests or a broken chair back, disassemble the chair and replace the parts:

  1. Disassemble the chair: Use a screwdriver or wrench to remove the fasteners (such as screws and buckles) around the damaged part and record the disassembly order for reassembly.
  2. Part replacement: If the armrest is missing, measure the original armrest size and have a matching part custom-made or purchased; if the chair back is broken, choose bonding (for wooden) or welding (for metal) repair according to the material.
  3. Reassemble: Install the new parts in the reverse order of disassembly, ensure all connectors are tight, and test the chair's stability.

Precautions: Before repairing, evaluate the value of the chair. If the damage is severe or the repair cost is too high, it is advisable to replace it with a new one. Wear gloves during operation to avoid cuts from glue or tools.
