Office Chair Bracket Broken

Admin October 09, 2026

Damage to the office chair bracket can often be resolved by tightening screws, replacing worn parts, or replacing the entire tray, with most cases being repairable by oneself. Here are the specific steps:

I. Safety Inspection and Preliminary Observation
Place the chair in a flat, unloaded state and focus on inspecting areas such as the connection between the five-claw bracket of the tray and the casters, the central turntable, and the interface with the gas lift. Look for cracks, deformations, or detached components. Determine the source of wobbling by manually shaking the seat: if the wobbling is concentrated at the connection between the seat cushion and the tray, it may be due to loose mechanical connections in the upper part; if the wobbling comes from the connection between the tray and the gas lift or casters, check the lower interfaces for issues.

II. In-Depth Cause Diagnosis

  1. Loose Mechanical Connections: Prolonged use may cause screws connecting the seat cushion to the tray and the tray to the five-claw bracket to loosen invisibly. Check and tighten them one by one.
  2. Worn Nylon Sliders/Plastic Clips: The nylon sliders or fixed clips inside the tray that control the tilt angle may turn white and become brittle after long-term friction, leading to increased gaps and wobbling.
  3. Aging Interface Components: The metal clips or inner plastic sleeves at the interface between the gas lift and the tray may wear out or loosen, causing unstable connections.
  4. Distinguishing from Gas Lift Issues: If the lifting function is normal and the wobbling is limited to the connection area, the problem is concentrated at the bracket interface; if accompanied by lifting failure or slow sinking, check if the gas lift is leaking.

III. Targeted Repair Operations

  1. Screw Tightening: Use a screwdriver or wrench of the corresponding size to tighten all visible connecting screws one by one, focusing on the connection points between the seat cushion and the tray and between the tray and the five-claw bracket.
  2. Replacing Worn Parts: If it is confirmed that the nylon sliders, plastic clips, or interface plastic sleeves are worn, purchase replacement parts of the same model online or from the manufacturer for replacement.
  3. Overall Tray Replacement: If the metal structure of the tray is severely deformed or worn and cannot be repaired with small parts, purchase a new tray of the same model or a universal model for overall replacement.

IV. Handling Special Cases

  1. Stripped Screw Holes: If the screw holes are stripped and cannot be tightened, try wrapping the screw threads with Teflon tape to increase friction; if ineffective, replace with a larger screw or use a thread repair tool.
  2. Screw Model Identification: There is no unified standard for office chair screws. Common specifications are metric M6 (6mm in diameter) with a length of 20-30mm. It is recommended to disassemble the old screw and measure the outer diameter of the threads with a caliper, or take the old part to a hardware store for comparison and purchase.

If the bracket is severely damaged, the wheel assembly can be replaced separately (most brands support retail of parts) or the entire load-bearing frame can be replaced. It is advisable to purchase matching models through the original brand's after-sales channels.
