Office Chair Bottom Wobble

Admin October 17, 2026

The wobbling at the bottom of an office chair may be caused by gaps in component connections, issues with the base installation, malfunctions of the gas lift or five-star base, functional design characteristics, and ground or environmental factors, and can be resolved through targeted inspections and adjustments.

Gaps in Component Connections

Office chairs are assembled from multiple components using screws. To ensure the flexibility of functions such as height adjustment and reclining, a certain gap must be left at the screw connections, which is a normal design. Such gaps may cause slight wobbling, but usually do not affect safety. If the wobbling amplitude is within an acceptable range and there are no other abnormalities, no special treatment is required.

Base Installation Issues

Incorrect base installation direction or loose screws are common causes. If the base is installed backward (e.g., the protruding round spring is not in front of the gas lift), it can cause the chair to lean forward or wobble overall. Check the base position to ensure that the lever for adjusting the height is on the right side. If the base screws are loose, use tools to retighten all the fixing screws to avoid uneven local stress that may cause wobbling.

Malfunctions of the Gas Lift or Five-Star Base

Aging of the gas lift or failure of internal seals can lead to unstable height adjustment, which in turn causes the chair body to wobble. Check whether the gas lift is leaking air or has a stuck height adjustment. If there are abnormalities, replace it with a new gas lift. Loose connection screws on the five-star base or worn plastic sleeves at the bottom can also affect stability. Tighten all the connection screws and check whether the plastic sleeves are cracked or deformed. Replace worn parts if necessary.

Functional Design Characteristics

Some chairs are designed with a rocking function (allowing slight rocking) or use universal wheel rotation design, which may cause a slight wobbling sensation when sitting. Such wobbling is a normal phenomenon and does not require treatment. If you are sensitive to wobbling, you can prioritize choosing chairs without a rocking function or with fixed wheels.

Ground or Environmental Factors

An uneven ground or long-term exposure to moisture can prevent the base from fully adhering to the ground, exacerbating the wobbling sensation. Adjust the chair position to a flat and dry area and avoid placing it in a humid environment for a long time. If the ground is significantly uneven, you can install anti-slip pads at the bottom of the chair or adjust the height of the casters to balance the stress.

Recommended Handling Steps:

  1. Check the base installation direction and screw tightness, and retighten any loose screws.
  2. Confirm the condition of the gas lift and five-star base, and replace aging or worn parts.
  3. If the wobbling persists and is not caused by design characteristics, contact the manufacturer (e.g., AutoFull offers a three-year warranty) for after-sales repair.
  4. Regularly check the screw tightness in daily use, and avoid long-term exposure to moisture or placing on an uneven ground.
