Office Chair and Boss Chair Renovation

If the frame of an office chair or boss chair is sturdy, but only the surface is worn, the paint is peeling, or the upholstery is aging, renovation offers high cost-effectiveness. You can follow the steps below:

I. Basic Tool and Material Preparation The cost of tools and materials can be controlled within 50 yuan. You need to prepare:

• Sandpaper: Coarse sandpaper (120-grit) for removing old paint layers, and fine sandpaper (240-grit) for fine polishing;
• Wood paint: If you need to change the color, you can directly purchase wood paint with a color number;
• Brushes: For applying wood paint;
• Old newspapers: To lay out the work area and prevent paint from staining the floor;
• Other tools: Adjustable wrenches, hammers (wrapped in towels to protect the paint surface), and wet cloths. If you need to replace the upholstery, you need to additionally prepare:
• Foam: Seat cushion thickness of 8-10 cm, backrest thickness of about 5 cm;
• Fabric: Self-adhesive leather repair patches, custom upholstery, etc. Consider breathability, ease of cleaning, and color coordination;
• Sofa fasteners: To prevent cushion movement.

II. Core Renovation Steps

1. Safely Disassemble the Gas Cylinder and Base Turn the chair upside down so that the bottom of the gas cylinder faces up. Use an adjustable wrench to grip the connecting nut at the bottom of the gas cylinder and turn it clockwise to loosen it. Use a hammer wrapped in a towel to lightly tap the connection between the chair seat and the gas cylinder 2-3 times. Manually unscrew the nut and pull out the gas cylinder. If you need to replace the five-star base, check if there is a flat washer retaining clip at the bottom of the central column: if there is, remove the clip and then pull out the old base; if not, use an iron hammer to lightly tap the five-star base until it comes off.

2. Surface Renewal

• Polishing: For wooden or metal frames, first use 120-grit coarse sandpaper to polish along the wood grain direction, removing the old paint layer until the original color is exposed. Then use 240-grit fine sandpaper for fine polishing until the surface is smooth. After polishing, wipe off the dust with a wet cloth and let it dry completely.
• Painting: Apply wood paint 2-4 times, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next one to ensure a uniform and firm paint film.
• Upholstery Replacement: If the frame and foam are intact but the fabric is aging, you can replace the fabric: choose self-adhesive leather repair patches or custom upholstery, paying attention to matching the original material, breathability, and color. If you need to improve comfort, you can replace the foam: use 8-10 cm thick foam for the seat cushion and 5 cm thick foam for the backrest. Secure it with sofa fasteners. The cost of custom covers is about 100 yuan.

3. Reassembly and Installation Install the new five-star base and casters. Count the accessories (5 casters, pressure lift rod, five-star base, control tray, seat) and assemble them in order.
