Removing Blood Stains from Office Chairs

Admin October 10, 2026

The method for removing blood stains from office chairs should be selected according to the material. The core principle is to treat them immediately with cold water to avoid the protein solidifying due to high temperature, which increases the difficulty of cleaning.

I. General Treatment Steps

  1. Emergency Treatment
Use clean paper towels or a cloth to press and absorb the surface blood. Avoid wiping back and forth to prevent the stain from spreading. If the blood has dried, gently scrape off the surface residue with a hard card (such as a bank card).

  2. Cold Water Rinsing/Soaking

  • Fabric Seat Surface: Rinse from the back of the stain with running cold water, or soak it in cold water for 10 - 30 minutes. Gently rub the edges of the blood stain while soaking (do not rub vigorously).
  • Non-removable Mesh Chair: Rinse repeatedly with cold water, or cover the stain with a towel soaked in cold water.
  1. Cleaning with Mild Detergents
  • Apply a neutral detergent, soap, or an enzyme-containing cleaner (such as enzyme-based laundry detergent) and gently scrub. Enzymes can break down proteins, making them suitable for treating blood stains.
  • For stubborn stains, extend the soaking time to 2 hours, or let the enzyme-containing detergent sit for 10 - 15 minutes before scrubbing.
  1. Special Auxiliary Methods
  • Alcohol: Spray it on the stain and wait for 5 minutes before scrubbing (test locally first).
  • Collar Cleaner: Spray it and let it sit for half an hour before scrubbing to enhance the decomposition effect.
  • Color-safe Bleach: Wet-apply it to the blood stain (only for bleach-resistant fabrics; test for color fading first).
  1. Thorough Drying
After cleaning, absorb the moisture with a dry towel or let it dry naturally in a well-ventilated place. Avoid moisture breeding bacteria.

II. Material-Specific Treatment Points

  1. Leather Office Chairs
  • Use a soft cloth dipped in a neutral detergent to gently wipe the blood stain and avoid excessive wetting.
  • For stubborn stains, use a small amount of 75% medical alcohol or a special leather cleaner (test first).
  • After cleaning, wipe off the residual cleaner and apply a leather conditioner for maintenance.
  1. Mesh/Fabric Office Chairs
  • After soaking in cold water, gently scrub with soapy water or an enzyme-containing detergent.
  • You can first vacuum the chair, then spray diluted cleaner, let it sit, and absorb the solution with a water absorber or a dry towel.

III. Precautions

  • Test the Cleaner: Before use, test it on an inconspicuous area such as the bottom of the chair to ensure there is no color fading or deterioration before using it on a large area.
  • Avoid Alkaline Cleaners: Do not use alkaline products such as laundry powder or dish detergent on leather seat surfaces to prevent damage to the surface layer.
  • Use Bleach with Caution: Only 3% medical hydrogen peroxide can be used on white or light-colored bleach-resistant fabrics, and the time should be strictly controlled (5 - 15 minutes) and rinsed thoroughly.
