Removing Blood Stains from Office Chairs
Admin October 09, 2026
To remove blood stains from office chairs, treat them with cold water as soon as possible, avoid using hot water, choose cleaning methods based on the material, and use enzymes or oxidizers for stubborn stains.

I. General First-Aid Steps
- Immediate Action: Use clean paper towels or a dry cloth to blot up excess blood from the surface. Avoid rubbing back and forth to prevent spreading the stain.
- Cold Water Rinse/Soak:
- For fabric chair surfaces: Rinse from the back of the stain with running cold water or soak for 10-30 minutes, gently rubbing the edges of the bloodstain.
- For non-removable mesh chairs: Rinse repeatedly with cold water or apply a towel soaked in cold water.
- Gentle Detergent Cleaning: Apply a neutral detergent, soap, or an enzyme-based cleaner (such as enzyme-containing laundry detergent) and gently scrub.
- Complete Drying: Allow to air dry or blot dry with a dry cloth to ensure the cleaned area is completely dry.
II. Material-Specific Treatments
- Leather Office Chairs:
- After blotting up the blood, use a soft cloth dampened with a neutral detergent to gently wipe, avoiding excessive wetness.
- For stubborn stains, try 75% medical alcohol or a specialized leather cleaner (test on an inconspicuous area first).
- After cleaning, wipe away residue with a damp towel, thoroughly dry with a dry towel, and apply a leather conditioner after drying.
- Mesh/Fabric Office Chairs:
- Cold water soaking is crucial to prevent blood from clotting.
- Gently scrub with soapy water or an enzyme-containing detergent, or vacuum first, then spray with diluted cleaner, let it sit to decompose the stain, and then use a water extractor or dry towel to absorb the solution.
III. Treating Old or Stubborn Blood Stains
- Extended Soaking: Soak in cold water for 30 minutes to 2 hours to soften dried bloodstains.
- Enzyme-Based Detergents: Apply a protein-enzyme-containing laundry detergent, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, and gently brush in one direction with a soft-bristled brush.
- Oxidizer Treatment (Use with Caution): Only suitable for white or light-colored, bleach-resistant fabrics. Apply a small amount of 3% hydrogen peroxide, let it sit for 5-15 minutes, and then rinse with cold water (test on a hidden area first).
- Auxiliary Methods: Use cold saltwater (10 grams of salt per liter of water), diluted white vinegar, or a baking soda paste for local treatment.
- Other Methods: Spray alcohol to decompose the bloodstain, after 5 minutes use a collar cleaner for further decomposition, scrub and let it sit for half an hour, then scrub repeatedly with a wet brush, and finally apply a color-safe bleach solution for half an hour before wiping clean.
IV. Preventive Measures
- Use seat cushions, fabric covers, or protective pads to prevent direct contact between blood and the chair surface.
- Regularly clean and disinfect office chairs to keep them dry and clean.
