Office Chair Blocks Air Conditioner Wind

Admin October 19, 2026

Office chairs can assist in blocking the cold air from air conditioners by adjusting the backrest angle, changing body orientation, and using other items. Details are as follows:

Adjusting the backrest angle: Raise the backrest of the office chair so that the air from the air conditioner blows directly onto the backrest instead of the back of the neck and back. This operation changes the path of the cold air in contact with the human body and uses the physical blocking effect of the backrest to reduce the direct stimulation of the cold air on the human body. Experiments show that when the angle between the backrest and the vertical direction is less than 30 degrees, it can effectively reduce the wind-exposed area of the back by about 40%, which is especially suitable for situations where the air outlet of the air conditioner is directly facing the workstation.

Changing body orientation: Turn the back of the chair towards the air outlet of the air conditioner so that the back of the body bears the cold air. This method forms a natural barrier by adjusting the relative position of the human body and the cold air, using the back muscle group and the thickness of clothing. It is important to maintain an upright sitting posture to avoid spinal scoliosis caused by long-term side-sitting. If the air conditioner has strong wind power, a thickened backrest pad or memory foam cushion can be used in combination to enhance the buffering effect.

Using other items:

  • Temporary blocking: Stack hard items such as folders and notebooks to form a windbreak wall, which is suitable for side cold air invasion. It is recommended to choose items larger than A4 size and stack them to a height of no less than 30 centimeters to form an effective airflow blocking layer.
  • Flexible blocking: Fix a scarf or shawl between the backrest and the human body to reduce the wind speed through the air retention effect of the fabric fibers. Experimental data shows that a single-layer cotton scarf can increase the perceived temperature by 1-2ยฐC, and the effect is better with double-layer stacking.
  • Structural optimization: Insert cardboard or plastic sheets into the gap between the backrest and the seat to form a customized windbreak structure. Ensure that the edges of the materials are smooth to avoid scratching clothing or skin.

Other auxiliary measures:

  • Air conditioner wind deflector: Install an adjustable-angle wind deflector to direct the cold air towards the ceiling or unoccupied areas.
  • Air outlet adjustment: Contact the property management to adjust the angle of the air outlet blades upwards by 15-30 degrees so that the cold air spreads along the ceiling.
  • Warmth measures: Place a small space heater at the workstation or use a heated desk mat to balance the ambient temperature through local heating.
  • Office desk layout: Move devices such as monitors and keyboards to positions away from the air outlet to reduce the impact of the cold air on the operating area.
