Office Chair Bending Damage

Admin October 16, 2026

Repairing a bent office chair requires addressing specific components. Here are common components and their repair methods:

Chair Legs Bending Causing Chair Tilt

  1. Inspect the Wheels: Place the chair upright and observe whether each leg makes even contact with the ground. Invert the chair and check for any cracks, deformations, or signs of wear on the legs. Bent casters are often caused by prolonged uneven loading, manufacturing defects, or normal wear and tear.
  2. Replace the Wheels: If the wheels are damaged, purchase new ones that match the model. Contact the manufacturer for model information, or remove the old wheels and take them to an office supply store to compare the axle shape and size.
  3. Remove the Old Wheels: Pull the legs out by hand. If they are stuck, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap between the leg and the chair base, and gently pry until loose, then pull out. A very small number of wheels are secured with screws and require a screwdriver for removal.
  4. Lubricate the Sockets: Spray a small amount of lubricant like WD-40 into the wheel sockets on the chair base, or apply petroleum jelly to the axles to reduce installation resistance.
  5. Install the New Wheels: Align the rod of the new wheel with the socket, push gently by hand, and when not fully seated, tap the base of the wheel rod lightly with a rubber mallet (avoid hitting the edge of the wheel) until fully inserted.
  6. Test the Chair: Invert the chair and sit on it. If it rolls smoothly and remains level, the repair is complete. If it still tilts, further inspect the seat plate.

Seat Plate Bending and Deformation

  1. Assess the Degree of Deformation: Minor bends or warps can be attempted to be repaired. If severely twisted or cracked, it is recommended to replace the seat plate directly.
  2. Weight Pressing Method (Minor Warping): Place the convex side of the deformed seat plate face down on a hard, flat surface. Evenly place heavy objects (such as bricks or sandbags) to cover the entire surface, and press continuously for 3-7 days to allow the wood fibers to adapt to the new shape.
  3. Moist Heating Method (Moderate Bending): Cover the concave side (opposite the deformation) of the seat plate with a damp towel. Soften the wood fibers through moisture penetration and slight heating, then adjust the shape using the weight pressing method (be sure to control humidity and temperature to avoid over-softening and damage).

Chair Back Bending Prolonged use may reduce the support of the chair back, causing discomfort in the lower back. Replace the chair back cushion or the entire chair back component, ensuring the new chair back conforms to ergonomic design and provides sufficient lumbar support. When replacing, pay attention to compatibility with the chair frame to avoid unstable installation.
