Office Chair Behind Window

Admin October 10, 2026

Having an office chair placed behind a window can give a sense of unease. From the perspective of Feng Shui, having a seat behind a window leads to unstable energy flow and a lack of support, which can affect financial luck. From a practical standpoint, sitting with your back to a window may expose you to the risk of being spied on, resulting in a lack of security. Here are some specific solutions:

Adjust the Position of the Desk and Chair
If space permits, adjust the desk and chair to be perpendicular to the window. In this way, the window that was originally behind the seat becomes a side window, and the desk and chair can be placed against a solid wall. This layout creates a stable supporting structure, adhering to the Feng Shui principle of having a "back against a mountain" and eliminating the risk of being spied on in reality. As a natural barrier, the solid wall effectively blocks outside views and enhances the sense of security in the space, making it especially suitable for open-plan office areas or work scenarios that require a high degree of concentration.

Move the Desk and Chair or Seal the Window
When perpendicular adjustment is not feasible, prioritize moving the desk and chair to a wall area without windows. If space constraints prevent movement, consider sealing the window: Install double-layer blackout curtains on the inside of the window. It is recommended to choose thick cotton or polyester fiber materials for the curtains, which can block light and create a visual barrier. At the same time, place potted plants or artistic ornaments on the windowsill to reduce the sense of unease through physical blocking and visual focus shifting. If retaining natural light is necessary, opt for semi-transparent sheer curtains combined with frosted glass film, which allows light to penetrate while maintaining privacy.

Use Amulets for Psychological Reassurance
In special cases where physical modifications are not possible, psychological adjustment can be achieved through symbolic items. Place consecrated amulets or safety charms in the desk drawer, or hang small Chinese knots or other auspicious objects on the back of the chair. Although these items do not serve as physical barriers, they can provide psychological comfort through cultural symbols. Modern psychological research shows that items with positive symbolic meanings can enhance the user's sense of control over the environment, thereby indirectly improving work performance. It is important to choose items that are small in size and have soft colors to avoid affecting the overall office aesthetics.
