Office Chair Bearing Removal
The main methods for removing office chair bearings include removing snap-on roller bearings, using loosening fluid and a hammer, using conventional tools, and special removal methods for rusty bearings.

Removing Snap-On Roller Bearings
Most office chair rollers are designed with a snap-on mechanism, which makes them easy to remove and usually does not require tools. Simply hold the roller bracket with your hand and gently pull the roller outward. If the roller is stuck tightly, you can use a flat-head screwdriver. Gently insert the screwdriver into the edge of the snap-on part, place a soft cloth underneath to avoid scratching the bracket, and then pry the snap-on part to loosen and remove the roller.
Removing Bearings Using Loosening Fluid and a Hammer
For some stubborn bearings, prepare a hammer and loosening fluid. Slowly drip the loosening fluid into the office chair bearing, allowing the liquid to fully penetrate. Let it sit for a few minutes to allow the loosening fluid to take effect and soften the connection between the bearing and the surrounding components. After that, use the hammer to strike the bearing in the opposite direction. Repeat the steps of dripping the loosening fluid and striking until the bearing is knocked off.
Removing Bearings Using Conventional Tools
- Preparing Tools: Wrenches, screwdrivers, rubber hammers, pliers, bearing extractors, etc.
- Removal Steps: First, flip the office chair over so that the base is facing upward. Perform the removal operation at the caster near the base. Use a wrench to remove the screws that secure the bearing, loosen and take off the screws. Then, use a rubber hammer to gently tap the bearing, using the vibration to make the bearing fall off the wheel. Finally, use pliers to grip the bearing and lift it out of the bearing housing. If the bearing is difficult to remove, you can use a bearing extractor to assist in the removal. Install the bearing extractor on the bearing and rotate or pull the extractor to remove the bearing intact.
Special Removal Methods for Rusty Bearings
For severely rusty bearings, you can use specially made tools for removal. Prepare three screw rods and insert them into the bearing. Place a cover plate on top of the screw rods, ensuring that the cover plate fits snugly against the surface of the bearing. Thread a long threaded rod through the cover plate and connect it to the internal screw rods. By rotating the long threaded rod, the screw rods generate an outward pulling force, gradually pushing the bearing out.
