Office Chair Base Switch

Admin October 10, 2026

The switches on an office chair base mainly include knobs or levers for adjusting backrest hardness, chair height, and locking or unlocking functions. Some high-end models are also equipped with electric adjustment buttons or one-click mode switching buttons.

1. Adjusting Backrest Hardness
The office chair base is typically equipped with a knob to control the support strength of the backrest. When rotated clockwise, the backrest gradually becomes harder, providing stronger support, suitable for scenarios requiring prolonged fixed sitting postures or strong lumbar support. Rotating it counterclockwise makes the backrest softer, offering more flexible support for users who frequently adjust their sitting positions or seek comfort. This function is achieved by adjusting the springs or pneumatic devices inside the backrest, allowing users to make flexible adjustments according to their needs.

2. Adjusting Chair Height
Height adjustment of the chair is usually accomplished through a lever or knob on the base. Traditional designs use a vertically rotating lever: rotating it upward causes the chair to rise due to the release of the internal pneumatic rod; rotating it downward compresses the pneumatic rod, lowering the chair. Some modern office chairs use a press or lift lever method, achieving stepless height adjustment by controlling the valve of the pneumatic rod, making operation more convenient. The height adjustment function helps users match chairs with desks of different heights, maintaining correct sitting postures and reducing neck and shoulder fatigue.

3. Locking and Unlocking Functions
The lever or knob on the base is also used to control the locking state of the chair. Pushing the lever inward locks the chair, fixing its current position to prevent instability caused by movement or tilting. Pulling the lever outward unlocks it, allowing the chair to rotate or tilt freely. This function is particularly important when a fixed sitting posture is needed (such as for focused work) or when flexible movement is allowed (such as when communicating with colleagues), ensuring safety and convenience in use.

4. Additional Functions of High-End Models
The bases of some high-end smart chairs or ergonomic chairs may be equipped with more complex control devices, such as electric adjustment buttons or one-click mode switching buttons. Electric adjustment achieves precise control of parameters such as backrest angle and seat height through built-in motors, usually operated with a remote control or base panel. One-click mode switching allows users to quickly switch between preset sitting modes (such as work mode and rest mode), enhancing the user experience. These functions are more commonly found in the high-end market, meeting the needs of users with higher requirements for comfort and functionality.
