Office Chair Base Replacement
The replacement of an office chair base can be carried out following the steps below, with attention to safety and standardization during operation:

I. Prepare Tools Gather tools such as a rubber mallet, screwdrivers, pliers, lubricating oil, and a wrench in advance. The rubber mallet is used to strike and separate components, preventing damage to the paint surface caused by direct strikes from a metal hammer. Lubricating oil is used to handle tightly connected pneumatic rods, reducing the difficulty of disassembly. Screwdrivers and wrenches are used to remove screws and other fasteners.
II. Remove the Seat Cushion Place the chair on a stable surface, step on the chair legs to secure it, press the height adjustment lever, and gently shake the seat cushion, or lightly tap the connection between the seat cushion and the pneumatic rod with a rubber mallet to separate the seat cushion from the pneumatic rod. If the connection is tight, repeat the shaking or tapping action, avoiding excessive force that could deform the components.
III. Flip the Chair Flip the entire chair so that the base faces upward, facilitating operation on the connection between the base and the pneumatic rod. Pay attention to maintaining balance during flipping to prevent the chair from tipping over and causing injury.
IV. Remove the Base
- Strike to Separate: Use a rubber mallet to evenly strike along the edge of the base's steel ring, gradually loosening the base from the pneumatic rod. If a rubber mallet is not available, hold the chair upside down with one hand and tap the base position with an iron hammer wrapped in a towel to avoid direct contact with the paint surface.
- Check the Connection: After striking, try rotating the base left and right. If it still cannot be separated, repeat the striking action until the base is completely detached from the pneumatic rod.
V. Separate the Upper Seat Remove the screws connecting the upper seat to the pneumatic rod, lightly tap the edge of the upper seat with a rubber mallet or step on the upper seat to completely separate it from the pneumatic rod. If the screws are rusty, apply lubricating oil and let it sit for a moment before disassembly.
VI. Remove the Pneumatic Rod If the pneumatic rod is tightly connected, apply lubricating oil and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before attempting to rotate or strike it for separation. If the pneumatic rod is damaged and requires forced removal, invert the chair and tap the bottom of the pneumatic rod flatly with the side of a hammer. Do not strike the middle button to avoid safety hazards.
VII. Replace Components Replace the corresponding parts according to the faulty area, such as the base, pneumatic rod, or wheels. When installing new components, follow the reverse order of disassembly, ensuring that screws are tightened and components are aligned.
Precautions:
- Wear gloves throughout the process to avoid scratches or impacts.
- Strike and remove components gently to prevent scratching the chair surface or damaging the structure.
- Follow the steps to avoid losing small parts.
- For complex structures or stuck components, it is recommended to contact a professional for handling.
