Office Chair Base Replacement

Admin October 12, 2026

The replacement of the office chair base can be carried out according to the following steps:

Prepare Tools

Prepare tools such as a rubber mallet, screwdriver, calipers, lubricating oil, and a wrench in advance. These tools will play a crucial role in the subsequent disassembly and installation processes. For example, the rubber mallet is used to tap components to separate them, the screwdriver is used to remove screws, and the lubricating oil helps in disassembling tightly connected pneumatic rods.

Remove the Seat Cushion

Step on the chair legs while pressing and shaking the height adjustment lever with your hand, or tap the connection point between the seat cushion and the pneumatic rod. After that, you can easily remove the seat cushion. This step is relatively simple, but be careful to apply an appropriate amount of force to avoid damaging the seat cushion or related connecting components.

Flip the Chair

Turn the chair over so that the base faces upwards. This makes it easier to operate on the base part later, allowing you to see the connection of each component more clearly and facilitating the disassembly of the base.

Disassemble the Base

  • Tap the Steel Ring: Use a rubber mallet to gently tap the steel ring of the base to gradually separate it from the pneumatic rod. When tapping, ensure even force application to avoid excessive local force that could damage the components.
  • Inverted Tapping: You can also hold the chair upside down with one hand and tap the bottom plate position with a rubber mallet. If you don't have a rubber mallet and are using an iron hammer, to prevent scratching the paint surface, you can pad a towel. After tapping several times, the bottom plate can be separated.

Separate the Upper Seat

Remove the screws of the upper seat, and then use tapping or stepping pressure to completely separate the upper seat from the pneumatic rod. Be careful during the operation to prevent the upper seat from falling and causing damage or injuring yourself.

Disassemble the Pneumatic Rod

If the pneumatic rod is tightly connected, you can first apply lubricating oil and let it sit for a while before disassembling it. If there is a problem with the pneumatic rod, turn the chair upside down and tap the bottom of the pneumatic rod flatly with the side of a hammer. Remember to use a flat surface because the buckle in the middle of the pneumatic rod should not be touched. If the height of the buckle is higher than the bottom of the pneumatic rod, do not tap it.

Install the New Base

Install the new base onto the office chair in the reverse order of disassembly. During the installation process, ensure that each component is firmly connected and the screws are tightened to avoid looseness.

During the disassembly process, safety comes first. Always wear gloves and be careful when using tools to avoid injury. Protect the appearance and avoid scratching or damaging the chair. Disassemble in an orderly manner to prevent parts from being lost or confused. If you encounter complex structures or have difficulty in disassembly, it is advisable to ask a professional to operate to ensure safety.
