Office Chair Base Replacement

Admin October 12, 2026

Replacing the base of an office chair requires preparing tools first, then removing the old base, and finally installing the new base. Here are the specific steps:

Preparing Tools

Prepare a hammer. A rubber hammer is the best choice. If you don't have one, an ordinary hammer can be used as an alternative. A rubber hammer has a soft texture, which can reduce damage to the components of the office chair during hammering. When using an ordinary hammer, extra protective measures should be taken.

Removing the Old Base

  • Separating the Seat Cushion from the Base: Turn the office chair upside down and place it on the ground. Locate the screws that fix the bottom tray and use appropriate tools (such as a screwdriver) to remove these screws, thereby separating the seat cushion from the base. Be careful during this step to avoid damaging the screws or surrounding components.
  • Removing the Chassis: If you are removing the chassis, you can hold the chair upside down with one hand and then use a rubber hammer to strike specific positions on the chassis. If you don't have a rubber hammer, when using an iron hammer, place a towel between the iron hammer and the chassis to act as a buffer and reduce the impact force on the chassis. After striking several times, the chassis can usually be separated.
  • Dealing with Pneumatic Rod Issues: When encountering issues with the pneumatic rod, you need to turn the chair upside down and use the flat side of the hammer to strike the bottom of the pneumatic rod. Be extremely careful during the striking process and avoid touching the button in the middle of the pneumatic rod, as this may cause damage to the pneumatic rod or other safety problems.
  • Removing the Wheels: The wheels of an office chair can generally be pulled out directly with force. However, pay attention to the amount of force when pulling to avoid damaging the wheels or the components connected to the wheels due to excessive force.

Installing the New Base

  • Handling Special Cases: In terms of car seat modification, for example, when modifying the middle-row seats of a Buick GL8 into a home computer chair, you need to weld a base yourself. However, there are ready-made adapters available online, which cost a few dozen yuan. For users with zero hands-on skills, it is more convenient to directly purchase finished products.
  • Regular Installation: When installing the new base, follow the type and instructions of the new base. Ensure that each component is installed in place and firmly to guarantee the stability and safety of the office chair during use. During the installation process, you can use some auxiliary tools to help fix the components and ensure the installation quality.
