Office Chair Base Replacement

Admin October 10, 2026

The steps for replacing the base of an office chair are as follows:

First, prepare tools and perform initial disassembly. You will need a hammer, preferably a rubber mallet; if you don't have one, a regular hammer can be used as a substitute. Turn the office chair upside down so that its bottom faces upwards and place it on a stable surface. Locate the screws that secure the bottom tray to the seat cushion and use an appropriate screwdriver to unscrew them one by one, separating the base from the seat cushion initially. This step is the foundation for replacing the base, ensuring that subsequent operations can proceed smoothly. When unscrewing, pay attention to applying an appropriate amount of force to avoid damaging the screws or chair components.

Next, carry out the base removal operation. Hold the chair upside down with one hand so that the base is in a position that is easy to strike. Use the rubber mallet to strike a specific location on the base. This specific location is usually where the base is tightly connected to other parts of the chair and is likely to loosen under force. If you don't have a rubber mallet, when using an iron hammer, to prevent scratching the paint on the base, you can place a towel between the iron hammer and the base. After striking it several times continuously, the connection between the base and other parts of the chair will gradually loosen until it is completely separated. During the striking process, pay attention to observing the loosening situation of the base to avoid applying excessive force and damaging other parts of the chair.

Finally, replace the new base. After completing the above removal steps, carefully check the fault condition of the base to confirm that it is the base itself that has a problem and needs to be replaced. Install the new base onto the chair in the correct orientation and position, ensuring that the connection parts between the base and other parts of the chair are accurately aligned. Then use the screwdriver to re-tighten the screws that were previously removed, securing the base and the seat cushion so that the new base is firmly installed and the office chair can be used normally. After installation, you can gently shake the chair to check if the base is installed stably and if there is any looseness.
