Office Chair Base Repair Guide

Admin October 10, 2026

Repairing a damaged office chair base requires selecting the appropriate solution based on the specific type of fault. Here are common issues and their repair methods:

I. Loose or Noisy Base

  1. Inspect Connecting Components: Lay the chair down and use a screwdriver to remove the screws securing the base beneath the seat. Check if the connections between the base, gas lift, and seat cushion are loose. If the screw holes are worn, replace them with longer screws or fill them with wood glue and wood shavings for reinforcement. If the base is deformed, gently straighten it back into place with a wrench.
  2. Re-secure: Align the positioning holes of the base and gas lift, then tighten the screws in a diagonal sequence to ensure even force distribution and prevent localized looseness that could cause noise.

II. Cracked or Broken Base

  1. Local Repair: For plastic bases, apply AB glue to the cracks and reinforce the structure with metal sheets or carbon fiber cloth. For wooden bases, it is recommended to replace them with metal square tubes of the same size to enhance durability.
  2. Complete Replacement: Measure the dimensions of the original base and purchase a replacement of the same model, then follow the installation steps to replace it. Note: The repaired plastic base should not bear a load exceeding 100kg to avoid secondary damage.

III. Unstable Connection Between Base and Gas Lift

  1. Inspect Worn Parts: If the lifting function is normal but the connection is wobbly, check if the metal clips or plastic sleeves at the gas lift interface are worn or loose, and replace them if necessary.
  2. Replace Gas Lift: If the gap between the inner core and the cylinder of the gas lift is too large (normally about 0.5mm) or accompanied by lifting failure, replace it with a gas lift certified by SGS or TUV to ensure safety and stability. Simultaneous Inspection: When the connection between the base and gas lift is damaged, confirm whether the gas lift is deformed to avoid repeated failures.

IV. Side-to-Side Wobbling of the Tray (Base)

  1. Structural Inspection: Visually inspect the five-claw bracket, wheel connections, central turntable, and other parts for cracks or deformation. Replace any damaged components if found.
  2. Tightening and Replacement: Tighten all connecting screws. If the nylon slide rails or plastic clips are worn, replace them with corresponding parts. If the metal structure is severely deformed, replace the entire tray with a model of the same or a universal type.

Precautions

  • Safe Operation: Release the pressure in the gas lift before repairing to avoid accidental ejection and injury.
  • Load Limit: Strictly control the load on the repaired plastic base to avoid overloading.
  • Component Matching: Ensure that replacement parts are of the same model to avoid secondary failures due to size mismatches.

The above solutions cover common types of base faults. Choose the appropriate method based on the actual situation during operation. If the problem is complex or cannot be resolved, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician for assistance.
