Office Chair Base Repair

Admin October 14, 2026

Office chair base repair requires targeted measures based on specific issues. Common problems and repair methods are as follows:

Wheel or Caster Problems

If the chair tilts or rolls unevenly, check if the casters are bent, deformed, or broken. Repair Steps:

  1. Remove Old Casters: Invert the chair, pull out the casters directly, or use a flat-head screwdriver to pry open the gap; if the casters are fixed with screws, loosen the screws first.
  2. Clean and Lubricate: Use a soft cloth to clean the caster sockets and apply lubricant (such as WD-40 or Vaseline) to reduce friction.
  3. Install New Casters: Align the new casters with the sockets, push them in by hand, or tap them gently with a rubber mallet until fully inserted, ensuring even contact with the ground.
  4. Test Stability: Invert the chair and sit on it to check for smooth rolling without jamming or tilting.

Loose Screws

If the chair wobbles or makes a creaking sound, check the screws at the connections between the seat and base, and between the five-star base and gas lift. Repair Steps:

  1. Locate Loose Screws: Inspect connection areas such as the inside of the armrests and the bottom of the seat cushion, and mark the screws that need tightening.
  2. Tighten Screws: Use matching tools (such as a screwdriver or wrench) to tighten the screws one by one, avoiding excessive force that could strip the threads.
  3. Enhance Fixation: For screws that loosen repeatedly, apply anaerobic thread-locking adhesive to the threads. After the adhesive cures, it will enhance the fixation effect.

Worn or Damaged Components

Long-term weight bearing can cause deformation at metal connections, wear on nylon slides, or brittleness in plastic clips. Repair Steps:

  1. Replace Damaged Components: If plastic clips are broken, replace the entire base assembly; if the wheel axle is misaligned, replace the wheel set.
  2. Repair Steel Nail-Fixed Feet: If the plastic part of the steel nail is damaged, drill a hole in the intact foot and reinsert the steel nail for fixation, ensuring structural stability.

Gas Lift Problems

If the chair sinks vertically when pressed or wobbles when rotated left or right, and it is unrelated to screws, the gas lift may be loose or worn. Precautions: The gas lift is a high-pressure component. Do not disassemble it yourself. It is recommended to contact the manufacturer for replacement to avoid safety hazards caused by improper operation.

Base Deformation

If the base structure is loose or components are displaced, remove the bottom cover for inspection. Repair Steps:

  1. Inspect Components: Focus on checking areas such as plastic clips and wheel axles. If clips are loose, use pliers to reset them.
  2. Replace Base: If components are severely damaged (such as broken clips or deformed axles), replace the entire base to ensure chair stability.

Preparation Before Repair:

  • Tools: Screwdrivers, wrenches, Allen wrenches, pliers, lubricant (such as WD-40), adhesive (optional).
  • Safety Tips: Before operation, move the chair to a flat, open area and block the wheels to prevent sliding; for electric height-adjustable chairs, unplug the power supply to avoid electric shock risks.
