Office Chair Base Removal
Admin October 12, 2026
The removal of an office chair base can be carried out following the steps below. Exercise caution and adhere to safety regulations during the operation:

I. Preparation
- Tool Preparation: Prepare a wrench or a set of wrenches (suitable for different screw sizes), screwdrivers (Phillips or flat-head), a rubber mallet, a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40), and a cleaning cloth.
- Environment Selection: Operate on a stable and hard surface to prevent the chair from tipping over or parts from slipping due to an uneven floor.
- Safety Protection: Wear gloves to prevent hand injuries. If the chair is heavy, seek assistance when moving parts.
II. Disassembly Process
- Separate the Seat from the Backrest
- Locate the adjustment lever (usually located at the center under the seat) and insert the wrench into the top interface of the adjustment lever.
- Rotate the adjustment lever counterclockwise until it is completely separated from the seat. If rotation is difficult, gently tap around the adjustment lever to loosen it, avoiding excessive force that could damage the threads.
- Remove the Wheels
- Align the wrench with the nut at the connection between the wheel and the footrest, and turn it counterclockwise to loosen. If the nut is rusted or stuck, apply a small amount of lubricant to the threads and wait 5-10 minutes before attempting to remove it again.
- After removing the wheels, secure the adjustment lever (if still attached to the footrest) in the wrench and rotate the nut to separate the footrest from the wheel bracket.
- Disassemble the Base
- Invert the Base: Flip the chair base over so that the footrest is facing up, exposing the bottom screws.
- Loosen the Screws: Use a screwdriver and wrench in combination to check the screw positions (usually 4-6 fixing screws). Some screws may need to be rotated in the opposite direction (such as left-hand threads) to loosen, so pay attention to identification.
- Separate the Parts: After all screws are loosened, place the base upright and gently tap the connection between the footrest and the base (such as around the gas lift) with a rubber mallet to gradually separate them. If the parts are stuck, double-check that all screws are completely loosened or use a plastic pry bar to assist in separation.
III. Precautions
- Force Control: Avoid excessive force when using a wrench to prevent scratching the screw head or the surface of the footrest; tap parts gently to avoid deformation.
- Lubricant Use: Apply lubricant only in small amounts when parts are stuck. Excessive use may cause ground contamination or the risk of the chair sliding.
- Part Inspection: Before disassembly, confirm that all screws are loosened to avoid difficulties in subsequent disassembly due to omissions; after disassembly, clean the parts and store them separately for easy subsequent assembly or repair.
- Special Structures: If the chair has a gas lift (height adjustment column), press the gas lift to release internal pressure before disassembling the base to prevent high-pressure gas from spraying out and causing injury.
By following the above steps, you can systematically and safely complete the disassembly of an office chair base. For complex structures (such as hidden screws or integrated designs), it is recommended to refer to the product manual or contact a professional repair technician.
