Office Chair Base Operation
Admin October 16, 2026
Office chair base operation mainly includes two aspects: adjustment functions and disassembly/replacement. The specific operations are as follows:

Adjustment Functions
- Adjusting Backrest Hardness: The adjustment of the backrest hardness of an office chair is achieved through a specific knob. Rotating the knob clockwise will make the chair backrest harder, providing stronger support for the user, which is suitable for situations where a fixed sitting posture needs to be maintained for a long time or when there are high requirements for lumbar support. Rotating the knob counterclockwise will make the chair backrest softer, offering more flexible support to meet the user's comfort needs in different postures.
- Adjusting Chair Height: The adjustment of the chair height is accomplished by rotating a rod. Rotating the rod up or down can change the chair height. When the rod is rotated upwards, the chair will rise; when it is rotated downwards, the chair will descend. Users can adjust the chair to an appropriate height according to their own height, desk height, and usage scenarios to maintain a correct sitting posture and reduce physical fatigue.
- Locking and Unlocking Functions: Office chairs are equipped with locking and unlocking functions, which are achieved by pushing in or pulling out the rod. Pushing the rod inwards will lock it, and at this time, the current state of the chair, including height and backrest angle, will be fixed and will not be easily changed due to the user's movement or external forces. Pulling the rod outwards will make it ineffective and unlock the chair, allowing the user to freely adjust various parameters of the chair.
Disassembly/Replacement
To remove the office chair base, you need to identify the fixing method and follow three steps. After flipping the chair, you will usually see the connection point between the base and the gas lift. There are two common fixing methods:
- Screw Fastening: This is often seen on the edges of metal bases. Simply rotate the screws counterclockwise to loosen them and separate the base from the gas lift.
- Snap-fit Structure: Usually located at the bottom of the gas lift, you need to press the snaps on both sides with your fingers and lift the base upwards simultaneously. If you encounter snaps that are difficult to separate, you can apply a small amount of lubricating oil to the joint and let it sit for 10 minutes, or use a rubber mallet to gently tap the edge of the base to loosen it.
Note: The gas lift itself does not need to be disassembled. Once its sealed structure is damaged, it can easily lead to the failure of the lifting function, and disassembling the gas lift by yourself carries the risk of explosion. If complete disassembly is required, it is recommended to have it done by a professional.
