Office Chair Base Noise

Admin October 14, 2026

The main reasons for noise in an office chair base are structural looseness, poor lubrication, component wear, or improper installation. Solutions include tightening screws, applying lubricant, and checking the pneumatic mechanism.

  1. Loose Connection Screws
Prolonged use or frequent shaking can cause screws at connection points such as the backrest, armrests, base, and chair legs to loosen, creating gaps between components that produce noise when stressed. Use tools to check all screws one by one, especially the connection between the wheels and the base, ensuring they are tightened without deviation. If screws are stripped or damaged, replace them with new ones.

  2. Insufficient Lubrication of Base Rotation Shaft
In chairs with a rocking or reclining function, the internal metal springs and rotation shafts can dry out over time, causing metal-to-metal friction and noise. Apply professional lubricant (such as silicone grease) to the rotation shaft and connecting joints to reduce friction. Ensure even application and avoid excess dripping.

  3. Wear at the Connection Between the Gas Lift and Five-Star Base
The contact surfaces between the top of the gas lift and the base, and the bottom of the gas lift and the five-star base, can wear down due to prolonged weight-bearing, creating gaps that cause noise when shaken. If wear is minor, try applying lubricant to the contact surfaces; if wear is severe, replace with a thickened explosion-proof gas lift that meets national standards, ensuring it is pressed in vertically during installation to avoid secondary wear from tilting.

  4. Dry or Stuck Wheel Bearings
Lack of oil or dust accumulation in the wheel bearings can increase rotational resistance, causing noise when moving. Disassemble the wheels, clean internal debris, and apply lubricant; if wheels are aged or deformed, replace them with new ones. Avoid frequently pushing or pulling the chair on hard surfaces during daily use to reduce wheel wear.

  5. Improper Installation or Component Misalignment
If screws are not fully tightened or lubrication is insufficient during installation, friction between components can increase. Readjust the seat connection points to ensure all bolts are evenly stressed without looseness or misalignment. If the pneumatic lift mechanism has insufficient pressure, use a dedicated air pump to replenish air and avoid instability-related noise.

Daily Maintenance Tips: Regularly check the tightness of screws to prevent loosening from vibration; avoid using on rough surfaces to reduce wheel-to-ground friction; when not in use for extended periods, lower the chair to its minimum height to reduce pressure on the gas lift. If noise persists, contact a professional repair technician to inspect for structural issues.
