Office Chair Base Inspection

Admin October 13, 2026

Office chair base inspection covers aspects such as the importance of inspection, inspection items and scope, testing instruments and equipment used, and standard inspection methods and procedures.

Importance of Inspection: The base of a swivel chair is the core load-bearing and moving component of office chairs and home chairs, and its quality is crucial for product safety, durability, and user experience. Swivel chairs frequently undergo actions such as sitting, standing, and rotating. As the key component connecting the seat surface and the gas lift, the base needs to withstand dynamic loads and fatigue stress over the long term in a stable manner. Among swivel chair failure cases, issues such as base structural fractures and functional failures account for a high proportion, which may lead to safety hazards such as seat collapse and angleๅคฑๆŽง (loss of control, here it can be translated as 'uncontrolled movement'). Systematic inspection is a necessary step to ensure user safety and enhance product reliability.

Inspection Items and Scope:

  • Structural Strength Testing: Evaluate the base's resistance to deformation and fracture under static loads, such as applying rated loads to check whether the base frame deforms or develops cracks.
  • Fatigue Durability Testing: Simulate repeated actions in actual use, such as rotation cycle testing, tilt mechanism life testing, and impact load testing. For example, a 225-pound weight is placed on the seat surface, and the base's recline mechanism is subjected to 300,000 reciprocating motions. The function must not fail after the test.
  • Functional Performance Testing: This involves the base's tilt resistance, recovery ability, rotation smoothness, and the reliability of the locking device. The rotation smoothness is measured by a torque meter to determine the torque required for rotation, ensuring it is within the specified range.
  • Material Analysis: This includes the identification of the base's metal components, the aging resistance of plastic parts, and the effectiveness of anti-rust treatment.
  • Inspection Scope: It covers various types of swivel chair bases, including synchronous bases, fixed-angle bases, and multi-functional bases.

Testing Instruments and Equipment Used: Fatigue testing machines simulate seat surface lifting, tilting, and rotation cycle tests; universal material testing machines conduct static load and destructive strength tests; impact testing machines evaluate impact resistance; torque testers measure rotational resistance; environmental test chambers verify durability under high and low temperatures and humidity conditions; hardness testers and metallographic analyzers inspect the physical properties of materials; and digital measuring tools check dimensional accuracy.

Standard Inspection Methods and Procedures: During sample preprocessing, the base is installed on the test platform according to its actual use state, equipped with a standard seat surface and gas lift. For static strength testing, the step-by-step loading method is used. A specified load is applied at the center of the seat surface and held for a certain period of time, after which deformation and cracks are checked. For fatigue testing, an electric drive device is used to simulate daily use, and wear, abnormal noises, or functional failures of the mechanism are recorded.
