Office Chair Base Fracture

Admin October 10, 2026

The repair method for a fractured office chair base should be selected based on the material and the extent of the damage, as follows:

If the base is made of plastic, local reinforcement repair can be attempted first. Apply AB glue evenly to the crack, ensuring the adhesive layer completely fills the gap. After it cures, attach a metal sheet or carbon fiber cloth to the fractured surface as a reinforcing layer. The metal sheet should be a thin piece that fits well with the base, and the carbon fiber cloth should cover at least 3 centimeters on both sides of the crack, bonding tightly to the base through the adhesive layer. This method is suitable for small cracks that have not completely fractured, and can restore some load-bearing capacity, but regular inspection of the reinforced area is still required for long-term use.

If the base is made of wood, due to the wood's susceptibility to moisture-induced deformation and limited strength, it is recommended to directly replace it with a metal base. Measure the key dimensions such as the length, width, and hole spacing of the original base, and select a same-model, 2.5mm or thicker explosion-proof steel plate base. During installation, align the connection holes of the gas lift and the fixing holes on the seat surface, and tighten them with matching screws to avoid uneven force distribution due to hole misalignment. The thickened steel plate base offers higher impact resistance and stability, significantly reducing the risk of another fracture.

If the connection between the base and the gas lift is damaged, check the condition of the gas lift simultaneously. If the gas lift is bent, deformed, or has issues with lifting or lowering smoothly, it should be replaced as well to prevent secondary damage to the base due to gas lift misalignment. When replacing, first secure the gas lift and then install the base, ensuring a tight fit at the connection with no loose gaps.

Repair Precautions:

  1. Completely remove the load from the base before repair to prevent the crack from expanding due to force during the operation.
  2. After installing a metal base, test the lifting and rotating functions to ensure there is no jamming or abnormal noise.
  3. During daily use, avoid prolonged overloading (it is recommended that the load does not exceed 120kg), and regularly check if the connecting screws on the base are loose.
  4. If the base fracture is accompanied by gas lift leakage or seat tilt, contact professional repair personnel for handling to avoid safety hazards caused by self-disassembly.

Prevention Recommendations: Prioritize selecting a thickened explosion-proof steel plate base, which has a load-bearing capacity of over 150kg and has passed explosion-proof tests, offering higher safety. Avoid exposing the office chair to humid or high-temperature environments for a long time to prevent accelerated material aging.
