Office Chair Base Forward Tilt
The forward tilt of an office chair base may be caused by functional design or mechanical failure, and adjustments should be made based on the specific situation.

There are two scenarios for the forward tilt of an office chair base: one is a design with a synchronous forward tilt of the backrest, and the other is an abnormal forward tilt of an ordinary office chair.
I. Functional Design-Related Forward Tilt Some high-end office chairs (such as the Moga R9 PRO ergonomic chair) adopt a linkage design. When a user leans forward to work at a desk, the seat cushion and backrest move forward synchronously, and the lumbar support continuously fits the lower back, maintaining a neutral pelvic position and preventing the lumbar spine from hanging in the air. This design is achieved through a special base (such as the DriftSyncโข drift spring base), aiming to keep the user's spine naturally upright while working at a desk and provide stable ergonomic support. This type of forward tilt is an active function and does not require adjustment, but it is necessary to confirm whether the chair is of this type.
II. Mechanical Failure-Related Forward Tilt If an ordinary office chair has an abnormal forward tilt, it is usually caused by the following reasons:
- Incorrect base installation: If the forward tilt adjustment lever is located on the left side of the seat base, the base may be installed upside down. In this case, turn the chair over, unscrew the screws connecting the base to the seat cushion, rotate the base 180 degrees, and reinstall it.
- Gas lift failure: Unstable internal pressure or damage to the gas lift may cause the front end of the seat cushion to sink. Check whether the gas lift is leaking or stuck, and replace it if necessary.
- Loose base screws: Loose screws can cause the seat cushion to lose balance. Check the screws at the connections between the base, the seat cushion, and the five-star foot, and tighten them with tools until they are stable.
III. Adjustment Methods
- If the base position is normal, pull the adjustment handle under the seat cushion, and at the same time, slightly shift your body weight backward or forward to feel the change in the seat cushion angle. Adjust it to a suitable angle and then release the handle to lock it.
- If the forward tilt of the seat cushion occurs simultaneously with an abnormal backrest angle, find the tilt locking lever under the seat, release the lock, adjust the backrest angle, and then relock it.
IV. Precautions Before adjustment, confirm whether the chair has a forward tilt function to avoid damaging components due to misoperation. If the problem is still not resolved after adjustment, it is recommended to contact a professional maintenance technician to check the internal structure of the base or replace parts.
