Office Chair Base Disassembly
The disassembly of an office chair base can be carried out according to the following steps:

Preparation
Prepare a hammer, preferably a rubber hammer, as its soft material makes it less likely to damage the chair surface or the base paint during striking. If using an ordinary iron hammer, prepare a soft towel as a cushion to prevent direct striking from causing paint peeling or deformation. At the same time, place the office chair on a flat and open ground to ensure sufficient operating space, and clear away surrounding clutter in advance to prevent small parts from being lost during the disassembly process.
Step 1: Separate the Seat Cushion from the Base
Invert the entire office chair so that the chair surface faces down and the chair legs face up, making it easier to observe the bottom structure. Locate the screws that secure the bottom tray (the component that connects the seat cushion to the base), which are usually located at the edge or center of the tray. A Phillips screwdriver or an Allen wrench may be required for disassembly. Note: Before disassembly, record the installation positions of the screws or take photos for reference to avoid confusion during subsequent reassembly. If the screws are rusty and difficult to turn, spray a small amount of rust remover or cover them with a hot towel to soften them.
Step 2: Disassemble the Base
After separating the seat cushion, proceed to the base disassembly. Hold the office chair upside down with one hand (ensure the chair legs are stable to prevent tipping), and use a rubber hammer to strike specific positions on the edge of the base verticallyโusually the connection points between the base and the gas lift (the component that supports the chair surface for height adjustment) or the base and the five-star foot. Striking Tips: Apply even force to avoid excessive force at a single point causing base deformation. If using an iron hammer, fold the towel and place it at the striking point to reduce the impact force through cushioning. After striking several times, the connections between the base and the gas lift or the five-star foot will gradually loosen until they are completely separated.
Precautions
- Safety First: Wear gloves during the disassembly process to prevent screws or metal parts from scratching your fingers. If the office chair is heavy, it is recommended to work with two people to avoid the chair body slipping when lifting it with one hand.
- Part Storage: Store the removed screws, washers, and other small parts separately. It is recommended to use small containers or sealed bags for storage to prevent loss.
- Special Structures: Some office chair bases may adopt a snap-fit design without screw fixation. In this case, use a plastic pry bar or a bank card to gently pry along the gaps to avoid scratching the surface with metal tools.
If reassembly is required after disassembly, follow the steps in reverse order, ensuring that the screws are tightened and the components are aligned to avoid wobbling or abnormal noises during use.
