Office Chair Base Disassembly

Admin October 10, 2026

You can refer to the following steps for disassembling the base of an office chair:

I. Preparation Prepare tools such as a rubber mallet, screwdriver, pliers, lubricant, and wrench in advance to ensure they are complete and suitable. The work area should be spacious and well-lit to avoid inconvenience during operation or tools falling due to limited space. If the chair has electric functions, disconnect the power supply first to prevent the risk of electric shock. It is recommended to wear gloves during operation to protect your hands from scratches and increase friction for easier force application.

II. Removing the Seat Cushion Place the chair on a stable floor, step on the chair legs to fix the gas lift, and at the same time, press the height adjustment lever and gently shake the seat cushion. If the connection is tight, lightly tap the connection point between the seat cushion and the gas lift with a rubber mallet to loosen the buckle and then remove the seat cushion. Pay attention to the force in this step to avoid damaging the surface of the gas lift or the seat cushion due to excessive tapping.

III. Flipping the Chair Flip the entire chair so that the base is facing up and the backrest is facing down. This operation makes it easier to directly observe the base structure and provides space for applying force during subsequent disassembly. Ensure that the center of gravity of the chair is stable when flipping to prevent accidental tipping.

IV. Removing the Base Use a rubber mallet to evenly tap along the edge of the base's steel ring, gradually separating the connection point between the base and the gas lift through vibration. If the base and the gas lift are too tightly clamped, first use pliers to clamp the edge of the base and gently pry it, and then cooperate with the tapping operation. Be patient and tap repeatedly in this step to avoid violent disassembly causing deformation of the gas lift.

V. Separating the Upper Seat If the upper seat (i.e., the seat cushion support part) is still connected to the gas lift, use a screwdriver to remove the fixing screws. Then, tap the edge of the upper seat or step on the top of the gas lift to completely separate the upper seat from the gas lift. Pay attention to keeping the parts when removing the screws to avoid losing them.

VI. Removing the Gas Cylinder If the gas lift is tightly connected to the chair legs, first apply lubricant to the connection point and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to reduce friction before disassembly. Invert the chair legs and tap the bottom of the gas lift with a rubber mallet; if there is no rubber mallet, place a piece of wood between the gas lift and the ground to disperse the impact force and prevent damage to the gas lift or the chair legs.

Precautions:

  1. Maintain an even force during the operation to avoid using brute force that may cause deformation or breakage of parts.
  2. If the chair has a complex structure (such as with tilt adjustment functions), it is recommended to take photos to record the positions of each part for easier assembly later.
  3. When encountering buckles or screws that are difficult to remove, do not forcibly break them. You can contact the manufacturer or a professional repair person for handling.
