Office Chair Base Disassembly
The base of an office chair can be disassembled following these steps:

Step 1: Separate the Backrest
Before disassembling the base, you need to separate the backrest from the seat cushion. This step is usually accomplished by removing the fixed screws or clips at the connection point between the backrest and the seat cushion. The specific operation needs to be adjusted according to the chair model. Some backrests are fixed with hidden screws and require a screwdriver for removal; others are designed with clips and need to be pressed or pried at the clip position. After separation, the backrest can be placed separately to avoid interference in subsequent operations.
Step 2: Disassemble the Base and Seat Cushion
- Adjust the height of the gas lift: Raise the gas lift to its highest position to ensure that the connection between the base and the seat cushion is loose.
- Hold and shake: Steadily grasp the seat cushion with one hand and press the lift lever of the gas lift (usually located under or on the side of the seat cushion) with the other hand while gently shaking the base. The purpose of shaking is to loosen the connection structure between the base and the gas lift to avoid damage caused by forced pulling.
- Separate the base: After several shakes, the base will gradually detach from the seat cushion. If you encounter resistance, check whether the gas lift is fully unlocked or confirm if there are any unremoved fixed screws.
Step 3: Disassemble the gas lift (optional)
If you need to further disassemble the gas lift (for example, for replacement or repair), complete the following operations:
- Separate the base from the gas lift: Separate the already removed base from the gas lift, usually by rotating or directly pulling it out.
- Invert the chair legs: Invert the chair legs (i.e., the five-star legs) so that the tip of the gas lift points upwards.
- Tap to remove: Gently tap the top of the gas lift with a rubber mallet to use the vibration to make it come out of the chair legs. If you don't have a rubber mallet, you can place a wooden board between the gas lift and a hard object and then tap the wooden board with an ordinary hammer to avoid directly tapping and deforming the gas lift or chair legs.
Precautions:
- It is recommended to wear gloves before operation to avoid scratches or pinches.
- If the chair has been used for a long time, some parts may be adhered due to aging. Be patient and avoid violent disassembly.
- After disassembly, keep small parts such as screws and clips properly to prevent loss.
