Office Chair Base Disassembly
The disassembly of an office chair base can be carried out according to the following steps. Ensure safety and use appropriate tools during the operation:

1. Backrest Separation
First, separate the backrest from the seat cushion. This step usually requires observing the connection method between the backrest and the seat cushion. Most office chairs are fixed with snaps or screws. If it is a snap structure, hold both sides of the backrest with both hands and pull upwards forcefully. If it is fixed with screws, use a screwdriver of the corresponding size (such as a Phillips or flat-head screwdriver) to rotate counterclockwise and remove the screws. Be sure to keep the screws safe to prevent loss.
2. Base Disassembly
Raise the gas lift to its highest position to ensure that the connection between the base and the seat cushion is loose. Hold the seat cushion with one hand and press the height adjustment lever (usually located under or on the side of the seat cushion) with the other hand. At the same time, gently shake the base. By repeatedly pressing and shaking, the connecting parts will become loose, and eventually, the base can be removed from the gas lift. If the base is too tightly connected to the seat cushion, you can try to tap the edge of the base lightly with a rubber mallet to assist in separation. Avoid using metal tools to tap directly to prevent damage to the parts.
3. Base Plate and Gas Lift Disassembly
- Base Plate Separation: Hold the base plate upside down and tap the specific connection position between the base plate and the gas lift (usually at the edge of the base plate or the fixed snap position) with a rubber mallet. If you don't have a rubber mallet, you can wrap a towel around an iron hammer and tap it. Avoid tapping the paint surface directly to prevent damage. After tapping several times, the base plate will gradually loosen and separate.
- Gas Lift Disassembly: Invert the chair feet so that the bottom of the gas lift faces upwards. Tap the bottom of the gas lift flatly with the side of a hammer (not the hammerhead). Do not tap the middle button (if the height of the button is higher than the bottom of the gas lift, stop the operation to prevent damage to the internal structure). Control the force when tapping to avoid deformation or ejection of the gas lift.
4. Wheel Disassembly
The wheels are usually fixed to the chair feet with snaps or threads. If it is a snap type, you can pull it out forcefully directly. If it is a threaded type, rotate the wheels counterclockwise until they are completely detached. It is recommended to wear gloves during disassembly to prevent the edges of the wheels from scratching your fingers.
Precautions:
- It is recommended to take photos to record the positions of each part before disassembly for easy subsequent assembly.
- Wear protective gloves during operation to avoid scratches from metal parts.
- If the parts are rusted or stuck, you can spray a small amount of lubricant (such as WD-40) to assist in disassembly.
- The gas lift contains high-pressure gas. Do not disassemble or puncture it by yourself. It should be handled by professionals.
