Desoldering of Office Chair Base
The repair of a desoldered office chair base should be selected based on the material, structure, and extent of damage. Metal materials can be welded and reinforced, while for pneumatic rod structures, it is recommended to replace parts or contact professionals for handling.

I. Repair Steps for Metal Base
Cleaning and Polishing Thoroughly polish the surface of the desoldered area with sandpaper (recommended 80-120 grit) to remove rust, oil, and oxide layers, ensuring a smooth and flat welding surface. If the base is made of zinc alloy or wrought iron, focus on treating impurities in the welding area to avoid affecting welding quality.
Welding Treatment
- Select welding tools based on the base material: Zinc alloy bases require a low-temperature soldering iron (such as an aluminum welder), while wrought iron bases can use a regular electric welder.
- Heat the desoldered area to its melting point (approximately 420ยฐC for zinc alloy and 1538ยฐC for iron) and fill the gap with corresponding material welding wire. Maintain uniform heating during welding to avoid local overheating and deformation.
- After welding, polish the surface again with sandpaper to remove welding slag and burrs, ensuring flatness.
Reinforcement Install metal plates, steel bars, or stainless steel clamps at the welding area for secondary reinforcement through screws or welding, enhancing load-bearing capacity. For example, installing triangular metal brackets at the connection between the base and the pneumatic rod can disperse pressure and prevent further desoldering.
Glue Alternative (Limited to Non-load-bearing Parts) If the desoldered area is a decorative part or a small non-load-bearing part, thoroughly remove rust and oil and temporarily fix it with epoxy resin glue (such as AB glue). However, note that the shear resistance of glue is much lower than that of welding, suitable only for emergency repairs. After repair, allow the glue to fully cure for 24 hours before use.
II. Precautions for Pneumatic Rod Structure Base
Avoid Non-professional Welding If the base is connected to a pneumatic rod, high-temperature welding may damage plastic control switches or seals, causing air leakage, lifting failure, or even explosion risks in the pneumatic rod. Such structures are strictly prohibited from being welded by non-professionals.
Prioritize Part Replacement Desoldering of the pneumatic rod base is often accompanied by damage to the tray or connecting parts. It is recommended to directly replace original factory parts (such as trays and five-star feet). Ensure that the new parts match the model of the pneumatic rod and install them according to the instructions.
III. Operation Safety Tips
- After welding or reinforcement, manually shake the base to check stability and confirm no cold solder joints, looseness, or abnormal noises before use.
- Office chairs repaired with glue should be left to stand for more than 24 hours to avoid premature loading causing the glue layer to detach.
- If complex structures (such as pneumatic rods or hydraulic systems) are involved or the cause of damage cannot be determined, it is recommended to contact professional maintenance personnel for handling. Do not operate blindly.
