Deformation of Office Chair Base

Admin October 16, 2026

The repair of a deformed office chair base requires targeted measures based on the degree of deformation and the specific cause. Deformation of the base can lead to issues such as chair tilting and the gas lift rod touching and scraping the ground. When repairing, the following steps should be taken:

1. Check and tighten connecting screws
If the screws at the connection points of the base become loose due to impact or long-term use, it may cause the gas lift rod to tilt and touch the ground. In this case, use a hex wrench to check the connecting screws between the base, the gas lift rod, and the five-star foot, and tighten all the fixing points one by one. This operation can restore structural stability and prevent further deformation. If the screws are stripped or damaged, replace them with screws of the same specification to ensure a firm connection.

2. Evaluate the degree of deformation and replace the base
If the base suffers severe deformation due to external impact (such as a heavy object falling) or material aging (such as twisting of the five-star foot or breakage of the support frame), contact the manufacturer, provide the chair model, and order a matching original base. A non-original base may not match in size or load-bearing design, leading to potential safety hazards after repair. When replacing, completely disassemble the old base and install the new components according to the instructions, ensuring that the gas lift rod is vertically aligned with the base.

3. Adjust the seat height to avoid metal rod friction
If the chair has been at its maximum height for a long time, the exposed part of the metal rod may be too long and directly contact the ground, causing scratches or further deformation. In this case, immediately lower the seat height to the middle position (usually 50%-70% of the gas lift rod's stroke) to reduce the stress on the metal rod. If friction still exists after adjustment, check whether the gas lift rod is damaged and replace the gas lift rod assembly if necessary.

4. Preventive maintenance recommendations

  • Avoid jumping on the chair or placing items that exceed the rated load capacity to prevent damage to the base structure.
  • Regularly (every 3-6 months) check the base connectors, clean the dust, and apply a small amount of lubricating oil to reduce the risk of screw loosening.
  • If the chair is left unused for a long time, it is recommended to lower the height to the minimum position to reduce the internal pressure of the gas lift rod and extend its service life.

If the chair still tilts or makes abnormal noises after repair, it may be due to internal damage to the gas lift rod or a malfunction of the five-star foot wheel set. Further inspection or contact with a professional repair technician is required.
