Office Chair Base Classification

Admin October 10, 2026

Office chair bases are mainly classified into seven categories: ordinary bases, single-recline bases, lockable single-recline bases, synchronous-recline bases, cable-controlled bases, gravity-sensing bases, and special bases. Their functional characteristics and applicable scenarios are as follows:

Ordinary Base (Fixed Type)
It features a flat-plate design with no adjustment handle, serving only to fixedly connect the gas lift and the backrest. This type of base cannot recline, with a fixed angle between the backrest and the seat cushion. It is commonly found in low-priced bow chairs or four-legged chairs, suitable for scenarios with extremely low functional requirements, such as temporary office work or basic meeting scenarios.

Single-Recline Base (Ordinary Recline Base)
It is equipped with a small wrench or knob on the side, supporting a 20-30ยฐ recline but without angle locking. Its design is simple and cost-effective, commonly seen in basic employee chairs or home computer chairs, suitable for short-term office work or mild recline needs.

Lockable Single-Recline Base (Lockable Recline Base)
It enables angle locking of the recline through a thick pull rod or hand-operated switch (e.g., 90ยฐ work mode, 110ยฐ slight-recline mode), with some models allowing adjustment of the recline spring tension. This type of base balances functionality and cost, widely used in mainstream-priced ergonomic chairs, meeting the needs of switching between long-term office work and short breaks.

Synchronous-Recline Base (Linked Recline Base)
It has a sturdy structure with multiple connecting rods, allowing the seat cushion and backrest to move in proportion during recline (e.g., the backrest reclines 25ยฐ, and the front end of the seat cushion rises 5ยฐ). This design avoids pressure on the thighs and a 'pulling' sensation on the back, commonly found in high-end ergonomic chairs priced over a thousand yuan, suitable for users with high comfort requirements.

Cable-Controlled Base
It integrates all adjustment functions into a handle, allowing users to complete operations without bending over, significantly enhancing usability. This type of base is commonly seen in high-end ergonomic chairs, suitable for scenarios pursuing operational efficiency.

Gravity-Sensing Base (Self-Adjusting Recline Base)
It automatically adjusts the recline resistance based on the user's weight through built-in sensors, but may result in uneven resistance due to weight differences (e.g., excessive recline resistance for lightweight users and insufficient resistance for heavy users). This type of base is suitable for user groups with uniform weight distribution or scenarios with special needs for adaptive functions.

Special Bases (e.g., Space Base, Fiberglass Base)

  • Space Base: It uses fiberglass material to achieve precise adjustment of the recline force, solving the problem of uneven resistance in traditional spring bases. Representative models include Sihoo S300 and C500 second generation.
  • Fiberglass Base: Adopted by the Ergomax brand across its product line, it ensures no displacement of the waist and neck during recline, enhancing comfort for long-term use, commonly found in high-end ergonomic chairs.
