Office Chair Base Classification

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair bases can be classified into the following types based on different classification methods:

Classification by shape and structure: Five-claw base: Designed based on the principle of five-point support, it contacts the ground through five evenly distributed support points, forming a stable triangular mechanical structure. It can effectively disperse human body pressure and reduce the risk of tipping over. There are two types of materials: nylon and aluminum alloy. Nylon bases are mostly made of thickened engineering plastics in one piece, which are affordable, lightweight, and have good toughness. However, their load-bearing capacity is relatively limited, making them suitable for lightweight usage scenarios. Aluminum alloy bases are formed in one piece through metal die-casting processes, with high hardness and strong load-bearing capacity. They are not prone to wobbling when sitting for a long time and leaning back, but they are more expensive and are often used in high-end office chairs.

Bow-shaped base: It is formed by bending a metal frame into a bow-shaped structure, landing directly on the ground without wheels. It disperses pressure through the arc-shaped structure and has strong overall stability. Its simple design is suitable for fixed scenarios such as conference chairs and staff chairs, and the metal material is wear-resistant with a long service life.

Fixed wooden base: Made of solid wood, it comes in a variety of shapes, commonly circular and square designs, and is often used in retro-style or high-end office chairs. Due to the high density of solid wood material and its lack of mobility, it has excellent stability. However, it requires moisture-proof treatment to avoid cracking.

Classification by material: Plastic base: Ordinary plastic materials have poor toughness and are prone to cracking and deformation under long-term load-bearing, resulting in a relatively short service life. They are usually only suitable for temporary or simple office scenarios, such as short-term training chairs.

Cast iron base: Formed through casting processes, it has the characteristics of high hardness, strong load-bearing capacity, and is not prone to deformation. Its stability is better than that of plastic bases, and it has a high cost-effectiveness ratio. It is a commonly used material for regular office chairs in enterprises and can maintain stability for many years under normal use.

Aluminum alloy base: Made of aerospace-grade aluminum alloy as the raw material, it is lightweight and has anti-rust and anti-corrosion properties. It has excellent load-bearing performance, and its surface has a more advanced texture after anodizing treatment. It has the longest service life and is mostly suitable for executive office chairs or long-term high-frequency usage scenarios, such as 24-hour office chairs.
