Office Chair Base Assembly
The steps for assembling the base of an office chair are as follows:

I. Installing the Chair Legs and Casters Insert each caster into the assembly holes of the chair legs (five-pronged). Taking the Livorno M40 office chair as an example, you need to pick up the universal wheels, align them with the holes of the five-pointed star, press to install, and complete the assembly of all five wheels in sequence. Similar operations are also mentioned in the Luban Home tutorial, emphasizing the need to ensure that each caster is fully inserted into the hole to prevent looseness.
II. Installing the Gas Lift Place the thicker end of the gas lift into the center hole of the chair legs (five-pronged). For example, for the Livorno M40 office chair, you need to insert the gas lift into the center hole of the five-pointed star, then into the center hole of the base, and then flip the base to make it stand upright. In this step, make sure that the thick end of the gas lift is facing downwards to ensure a tight fit with the center hole of the chair legs and prevent wobbling during subsequent use.
III. Installing the Seat Plate and Seat There are two common methods for connecting the seat plate and the seat:
- Direct Fixing Method: Place the seat plate on the seat cushion, paying attention to the orientation of the seat plate (usually aligned with markings or grooves). After aligning the screw holes, screw the screws in 3-4 turns one by one, and then tighten them one by one until fixed.
- Screw Fixing Method: Some tutorials directly use screws to fix the seat plate to the top of the seat. Ensure that the length of the screws matches the hole positions to prevent piercing through the surface of the seat.
IV. Connecting the Seat to the Gas Lift Align the seat cushion with the top of the gas lift and insert it into the hole of the seat plate. For the Livorno M40 office chair, you need to install the seat onto the relevant structure of the gas lift, ensuring sufficient insertion depth. Usually, a clicking sound or the inability to press further indicates proper installation. Avoid applying excessive force in this step to prevent damage to the gas lift.
V. Installing the Chair Back The installation method of the chair back varies depending on the model:
- Pin-and-Clip Method: For example, for the Livorno M40 office chair, you need to insert the chair back obliquely into the pins of the seat and clip it tightly, and then stick the pin cover fabric in place.
- Screw Fixing Method: In the Luban Home tutorial, you need to align the bottom sides of the backrest with the installation positions of the seat cushion armrests and insert them. First, use 2 C-screws to fix the bottom of the backrest from the bottom of the armrest bracket, and then align the installation holes at the back of the backrest with those of the seat cushion bracket, and fix them with D-screws. Use a wrench to assist in this step to ensure that the screws are tightened and symmetrical.
VI. Installing the Armrests and Headrest
- Armrest Installation: Press the button below the armrest surface, insert the left and right armrests into the holes of the armrest brackets respectively, and release the button to fix them after ensuring proper insertion.
- Headrest Installation: Place the headrest in the middle position at the top of the backrest, press it to make it fit the backrest, and use 2 E-screws to pass through the headrest fixing clips and tighten them. Finally, tighten the screws until there is no looseness. Some models of headrests support angle adjustment. After installation, test whether the adjustment function works properly.
