Office Chair Backrest

Admin October 08, 2026

The adjustment functions of office chair backrests vary depending on the type and design. Mid-range and high-end products typically feature recline adjustment capabilities, which can be controlled via levers, knobs, or pneumatic systems. The specific operating methods and precautions are as follows:

1. Lever Adjustment System
This is the most common method for recline adjustment, with the operating lever usually located on the right or left side beneath the seat. Users need to first pull up or push the lever to release the lock, then slowly lean back to a comfortable angle, and operate the lever again to lock the current position. Some designs use a handle on the right side to unlock the recline function, while the lever on the right side of the seat cushion is used to lock the angle or return to an upright position. It is important to maintain body balance during operation to avoid sudden shifts in the center of gravity due to abrupt leaning back.

2. Knob Adjustment System
The knob is typically located at the center of the lower part of the seat and controls the recline resistance or angle through rotation. Turning it clockwise increases the recline resistance, suitable for scenarios requiring stronger back support; turning it counterclockwise reduces the resistance, making reclining easier. Some chairs are equipped with a separate knob for precise adjustment of the recline angle range. The cylindrical knob on the chassis is usually used to adjust the recline tension, with clockwise rotation enhancing support and counterclockwise rotation reducing it, allowing users to adjust to a suitable state based on their weight and habits.

3. Pneumatic Adjustment System
This system shares the height adjustment lever and enables smooth recline control by pushing in different directions. For example, pushing the lever forward may trigger the recline function, while pushing it backward returns the chair to an upright position. Since the pneumatic system relies on air pressure balance, it is important to apply force slowly during adjustment to avoid sudden changes in air pressure that could affect stability.

Recommended Recline Angles
The choice of recline angle should be based on work requirements: for focused tasks, it is recommended to maintain a small angle (about 10ยฐ-15ยฐ) to keep an upright sitting posture; for relaxed thinking, a medium angle (about 20ยฐ-30ยฐ) can be used; for short breaks, appropriate reclining (about 30ยฐ-45ยฐ) can effectively relax the back muscles. Regardless of the chosen angle, it is important to ensure that both feet are flat on the ground and the knees and hips are level to avoid causing pressure on the lower back due to improper posture.

Safety Precautions
During adjustment, pay attention to balance and stability to avoid the chair tipping over due to a shift in the center of gravity. Users with lighter weights can appropriately reduce the recline resistance or angle, while those with heavier weights should increase the support to ensure safety. If the chair is equipped with a headrest, adjust the headrest height during reclining to fit the neck curve and avoid neck fatigue caused by suspension in the air.
